  即使在最艰难的时候,也从未放弃艺术


  2000年,一心决定报考中央美术学院的董鹤还不知道,他开启的是长达五年的“高考马拉松”。


  在这五年当中,董鹤有四年都“考上”了中央美术学院,但是每次都落榜,原因是他不合格的英语成绩。身边的亲戚朋友都劝他,如果考不上大学就算了,随便上个学校就行。也有的亲戚不客气地跟他说,“既然考了这么长时间都没有考上,可能因为自己的能力不够,换一个方向,不要浪费时间。”但是董鹤从未动摇,他一定要去北京,一定要考上油画专业。


  “当初选择北京是因为想看展览,辽阳国际化的展览几乎没有,我想看大师的作品。并且当时辽阳没有什么好的书店,北京各大书店的画册和书很多。”后来他听说中央民族大学不要求英语成绩,他很惊讶,“还有不要英语成绩的学校?”最后一年,董鹤考上了中央民族大学的油画系。


  到了大学之后,他不疯玩儿也不谈恋爱,一心想的都是做作品。2006年,他决定参加上海国际艺术双年展,但是没有钱,他跟同宿舍的室友借了八百块钱,只身去了上海。去除路费和买作品材料的钱,他几乎没有钱吃饭。有一天,他买了一瓶大可乐,喝了一天。“因为喜欢这个事儿,你就不会觉得它辛苦。”


  在活跃的大学校园里,董鹤与身边的同学显得很不一样,他很早就进入了“创作阶段”。在最后一年高考时,他已经开始了明显带有个人风格作品的创作。也正是基于这样的前提,还在上大三时,董鹤就签约了当时以经营年轻艺术家为主的新时代画廊,成为当时班上唯一一个在校与画廊签约的“艺术家”。


  毕业以后,为了坚持职业艺术家的梦想,董鹤没有像其他同学那样进公司做设计或者转行。朋友劝他,“你可以白天上班晚上做创作,这样也能生活下去。”董鹤觉得不合适,“如果你进入工作状态,就几乎没有心思全心全意地去创作。”他曾在破旧的居民区里租了一间小房子做工作室,也曾经靠临摹凡高作品,帮人录美术教学光盘和卖画维持生计。董鹤一直重复那句话,“如果你喜欢,就不会觉得辛苦”。

  与苏菲·玛索在798共度一天


  在董鹤的收藏者中,著名的法国影星苏菲·玛索可能最忠实。2010年来中国时,她特意带着自己当时的新男友克里斯多夫·伯兰特来到董鹤的画展,以董鹤的作品为背景为法国杂志《虹》拍摄大片。


  2009年,苏菲·玛索曾经在上海买过董鹤的两幅作品,《危险,失重》和《谁将为你点燃烛火》。苏菲·玛索在中国只买过两个年轻艺术家的作品,一个是现在已经得到成功运作和市场认可的年轻艺术家陈可,另外一个就是董鹤。


  董鹤从当时代理自己的画廊那里领到钱之后,并不知道是谁买了自己的画。直到一年以后,苏菲·玛索主动联系到董鹤,并希望以董鹤的作品为背景,请他为自己安排拍摄地点。


  董鹤在当时自己签约的世纪翰墨画廊,按照苏菲·玛索的要求,以自己的作品为背景,安排了杂志的拍摄,并与苏菲·玛索和克里斯多夫·伯兰特在798度过了一天。就在前一天,董鹤还激动得睡不着觉,见面后让董鹤觉得惊奇的是,苏菲·玛索除了询问很多关于作品的问题以外,也问了很多董鹤个人的问题。和苏菲·玛索交谈中,董鹤得知,《危险,失重》和《谁将为你点燃烛火》就挂在苏菲·玛索家一进门的玄关。

  2013年9月10日,董鹤的个展《你只剩下画笔》在798的Hi小店开幕。这是董鹤的第一个个展,据Hi小店工作人员介绍,展览开幕的当天,就有一半以上的作品被卖出或者预售。


  你只剩下画笔》展出了董鹤自2009年到2012年以来的二十余幅作品,涵盖人物、动物、风景等多方面内容。曾经与董鹤签约的前世纪翰墨画廊老板、艺术经纪人林松说,董鹤不是符号化的艺术家,属于创作型的艺术家,这是很难得的。


  如今,董鹤在距离798不远的环铁艺术城有一间工作室,这里也是他工作和生活的地方。和他的两只爱犬豆豆和不点在一起,董鹤很满足,他每天深夜做创作,直到早上才睡觉,“晚上的时候比较安静,画画时更容易心静。”


  除了关注人本身,也能够在董鹤本次展览的作品中看到各式各样的动物,如熊、刺猬、鸭子、乌鸦、狗等等。在这些动物中,董鹤最喜欢画的是鹿。“不知道为什么,画鹿的时候就会比画其他动物顺手,画完了也会特别高兴,”董鹤说,“无论是在东方还是西方,鹿都被赋予着很多美好意义,有灵性、善良、聪明等等。”董鹤也画了各式各样的鹿,在这次的个展中,也有一幅关于鹿的作品,画面中,董鹤把鹿的头进行拆分,依次悬在一个透明的正方体之上,画面背景的处理也让很多人好奇他的创作方法,董鹤为这幅作品起名叫做《鹿的灵魂》。

  卡通一代的非卡通艺术家


  如今的八零后艺术家被称作“卡通一代”。董鹤在与新时代画廊合作的时候,也曾经画过一批卡通类的作品。


  后来他拒绝再画卡通类的作品,特别是带有明显符合化的卡通类作品。“那个太简单,换个场景,换个表情就是一张。”


  在董鹤的作品中,也几乎看不到任何的符号化,跟很多年轻艺术家迎合市场而强调作品的符号性不同,董鹤不希望在自己的作品中有任何的“符号性质”,“在年轻的时候,创造力旺盛的时期,就用符号把自己拘泥住,是一件很可惜的事。”董鹤说。


  董鹤的作品大多是对生命、死亡、存在和记忆的思考,董鹤说,他和他的作品在提问的同时,本身也是问题的答案。


  董鹤在上大学的时候就开始挑衅这些严酷的话题,他称之为对过去的“总结”。他的一些或忧伤或残酷的表达,源于他对外部世界的感受和思考。他不能想象,放弃最现实、最需要深刻体会的东西,去做一个构想中很虚幻的东西的自己会是什么样子。董鹤说,“做艺术是一辈子的事”。


  无论现实生活中董鹤有多幽默和无所谓,他的作品总会传达一种对于残酷的婉转表达,这或许跟他母亲的过早离世有关,或许是因为他拒绝被蒙蔽在现实所谓的“甜蜜”中。
