22日，“五台山佛教在线”网站发布了《五台山佛协辟谣：“僧人群殴女游客”系假新闻》文章，文中公布了“五台山佛教协会”的声明，声明表示：五台山僧人群殴女游客的视频纯属子虚乌有。视频中所配发的图片均出自2007年1月9日“骗群众打记者袭警察，假和尚打出政府软肋”的新闻。该视频所述内容完全是无中生有、误导群众、混淆视听，是对五台山佛教界的恶意中伤和无端诽谤，严重败坏了五台山僧众的声誉。
