其具体故障表现为在使用过程中，由于电动助力转向机的助力下降，转向沉重，有可能无法正确操作，影响驾驶安全。据了解，造成转向助力下降的主要原因为：在制造过程中，电动转向机总成(EPS)电机轴表面由于工艺处理的原因，可能会残留有影响黏结附着力的成分，致使电机轴表面和磁条的粘贴面产生黏结力不足，且磁条的限位结构装置不完善，造成磁条附着力下降并且偏离正常位置，最终导致电机转动不良，方向操纵助力不足。
对于上述问题，一汽丰田的召回公告中明确表示，将为问题车辆更换改进后的零部件。并表示于2006年10月28日之后生产的锐志车辆，开始使用改善之后的零部件，即追加防止磁条偏离的金属凸台。
然而，中国汽车质量网的投诉信息显示，2010年至今，有多位车主在投诉中表示锐志车转向系统存在卡滞现象，对行车安全带来极大的隐患。相比于此前召回的转向助力下降问题，这一次出现的卡滞问题则更为严重。
投诉涉及的出现卡滞现象的锐志车辆包括转向电机召回前后生产的车辆。出现转向卡滞的车辆经4S店检查多为转向机进水所致。来自辽宁的车主赵先生在投诉中表示，在经过一个积水的街道后发现车辆的转向失灵。具有多年维修经验的技师解释称，如果电子助力的转向机防水措施不当，且转向机位置较低，在下雨及经过积水的街道时，有可能会出现转向机失灵的问题。投诉信息表明，目前转向卡滞问题可能由两方面原因引起：转向拉杆防尘套破裂及转矩传感器故障所致。
来自广东的李先生在投诉中表示，其拥有的锐志车转向机转向阻力大且出现异响现象，经4S检查为转向机转向拉杆胶套有一道裂痕，造成进水生锈，从而形成上述故障。来自上海的彭先生在投诉中表示，转向机总成经常出现打不动方向的情况，经4S店检查后认为是转向机扭力传感器故障，需要更换方向机总成。
据了解，目前4S店对于此问题的解决方案为：由于车辆已出质保期，需车主自费解决。由于需要更换转向机总成，维修费用高达2万元左右。一些车主认为，使用电子转向助力的车辆不仅仅只有锐志一款车型，而其他品牌的车辆却鲜有因涉水而导致转向机卡滞问题的发生，可以说一汽丰田锐志的转向系统可能存在设计缺陷。
目前，2013款锐志已上市，据了解，新款锐志同样使用的是此前配备的电子转向助力系统，并未听到有关一汽丰田厂家对新款锐志的转向系统作出相应改进的消息。由于出现上述问题的车辆均在出质保期后发生此类问题，所以2013款锐志转向系统是否已经消除隐患，还有待时间的考验。(子烨)
