“回”是我国探月工程的最后一步。欧阳自远说，由于无法携带过多燃料，承担这项任务的嫦娥五号预计将在2017年发射。登月取到样本后，它要先飞到我国在太空中建立的空间站，中转后才能回“家”。
据介绍，无人月球探测计划的实施，将为我国载人登月打下基础。

院士制作28种版本演讲稿
昨日获悉，作为中国探月工程首席科学家，年近八旬的欧阳自远院士制作28种版本，向不同的人普及探月工程。
作为地大校友，欧阳自远多次来汉演讲。昨日，他在演讲中透露，我国在启动探月工程之初受到了来自各方面的质疑。有人认为，中国是发展中国家，地面上的事情都做不完，等国家强盛了再探月也不迟。还有人认为，美国和前苏联已经进行了大量探测，中国没有必要再搞月球探测；而且，中国工业基础、空间科学、空间技术和科学队伍比较落后，经济承受能力差，不宜兴师动众……
欧阳自远认为，这些质疑表明，各层次的人不了解月球，不理解这项事业的重大意义。“作为院士，我有责任和义务做好科普解释工作，让公众在了解的基础上自己做出判断”。
为此，他制作了28种版本的演讲稿，分别针对小学生、中学生、公务员、院士等群体做科普。他曾把针对高中生的演讲稿用于给院士做讲座。被告知深入浅出、讲得很好，这让他很高兴。近年来，他频繁进入各种公开场合演讲。“只要有机会，我也在港澳台地区讲一讲。我要让更多人知道，中国发展太空计划是整个中华民族的事情”。
出生于1935年的欧阳自远被誉为“嫦娥之父”。2010年10月发射的嫦娥二号卫星，目前仍在太空飞行。欧阳自远昨日在现场深情地说，嫦娥二号已飞离地球6500万公里，尽管超期服役仍在不断完成探索任务，是我国当之无愧的“民族英雄”。
