带走后的第二天，也就是10月11日下午，选举委员会意外地收到了街道司法所所长张德仙的通知：另行选举的选票格式需要修改，在另行选举的选票上只保留两个候选人，不再设“另选他人”一栏。
这一消息让选举委员会的成员都感到十分吃惊，并予以拒绝。
选举委员会和街道办僵持到12日凌晨后，街道办相关负责人召集了居委会书记，选举委员会备选的5位成员，还有其他一些党支部成员，连夜召开会议，正式终止了“不听话”选举委员会(该选举委员会由居民在选举一个月前选出)成员的资格。
新老班子关系密切
就这样，在新的选举委员会主持下，10月13日，许西社区按计划召开了另行选举。在许西社区1759位选民中，参加另行选举的有1600人左右，最终统计出来的废票有400多张，其中有空白选票150多张，还有250张左右的选票上都打了叉。

采访中，早报记者发现，“选举”一词似乎已经成了当地的敏感词。一旦在和居民的交谈中问及有关本次选举的问题，受访者都会变得十分的谨慎，不愿对选举结果做过多的评论。
选举结束后，张剑萍被释放。
