通用汽车也许想要建立一个开放式的环境,让任何开发者都能欣然使用它,但是这种开放是有限度的。通用汽车应用商店最终将成为一个受控的应用商店,汽车应用的批准门槛将比智能手机应用的批准门槛高得多。


普达尔称,每一款应用都必须满足以下两条原则:


1、 它必须符合全国公路交通安全管理局对分心驾驶的规定。那是什么意思呢?就是说待审核的汽车应用不能是视频类的应用,除非它是为车上的另一位乘客而准备的。任何可能导致驾驶者的眼睛长时间停留在仪表板屏幕或导致驾驶者双手脱离方向盘的应用都是不允许的。

通用汽车将如何实施这些原则呢?它将逐个去测试每一款应用。普达尔称,通用汽车已经在底特律聘请了一大批评测员来测试汽车应用。那种简单的网络音频流应用很快就能获批,但是如果应用比较复杂的话,就会得到更多的关注。普达尔称:“如果它是一款非常复杂的应用,可能就需要几天的时间来进行测试。”


至于那些符合原则但与通用汽车的核心服务构成直接竞争的应用呢?普达尔谨慎地说,他不能保证通用汽车一定会批准每一款符合核心原则要求的应用,但是他补充说,试图保护通用汽车自己的应用而限制第三方应用的行为是不利于生产的。


普达尔说,通用汽车想鼓励而不是扼杀汽车领域的创新。他说:“通用汽车在某些应用上或许会有些犹豫,但是我们已经明白了,只有自力更生的人才能获得最后的成功。”


通用汽车确实是这么做的,比如它已经批准苹果的Siri Eyes Free语音服务进入其汽车。这么做其实是有很大的风险的,它的竞争对手福特汽车就不愿意这么做。
