李欣(化名)研究生毕业，在被人称为“香饽饽”的工商所任职，提及工作，她的苦水却很多。她说，考公务员是为了获得北京户口，但现在北京户口对于她而言，却如同一张废纸。每个月不到5000元的工资，交了房租、买件衣服和化妆品，加上吃饭交通等日常开销，几乎所剩无几。她的很多同学虽然没考上公务员，却几乎人人买房买车。看着飙升的房价，买房成了李欣一个遥不可及的梦。
大学时，李欣也常听说公务员可以分房、能买经济适用房，工作才发现那只是“传说”。
“没有过节费，中秋只有一盒月饼。周末还要加班，也没有加班费。”更令她郁闷的是，找个男朋友，是北京人，男方父母竟然嫌她没房没钱，“那时才明白，当初追求北京户口的自己有多傻。”
加班：节假日加班很正常
“茶一杯报纸一张”的公务员工作状态，早已成为老黄历。当别人已经在享受周末，王宏却在办公室赶领导讲话的材料，王宏在北京一个机关单位上班。
王宏原本是一家杂志的编辑，为了更稳定的工作，在父母的催促下终于击败3000多人得到了这个公务员的职位。原本以为清闲的工作，入职第一周就让他几近崩溃，一篇3000字的总结材料，领导始终不满意，他足足改了10多遍，几乎每天都熬到凌晨一两点才睡。
王宏还发现加班是常态，上头有人来检查要准备材料，下去调研要写总结材料；3个月要拿出季度总结，6个月要完成半年总结。每天要比领导早到一小时，泡茶倒水打扫卫生；领导不下班，无论多晚都得等在办公室……
“甚至市里面出了一些大事，我们虽然不是公安、交管，但也要值班。”王宏说，这两年来，他很少参加同学聚会，甚至没有陪妻子买过衣服。
数据：公务员薪资大都只有2000多元
究竟公务员的薪资福利怎么样？
记者从中公教育了解到，国家通过公务员考试选拔的一般都是初级职位，虽然各地区工资有差异，但一般都是在2000元左右，中国政府公务员的工资水平与很多国家相比比较低。

华图教育公考辅导专家赵寰宇则表示，一方面，国家公务员是整个国家的建设者与形象。公务员教育程度直接影响整个国家的建设进程。我们需要受教育程度良好的公务员，这是一种社会所需，并非浪费。从这个层面上看，埃德蒙的这句话有不妥之处。但是，从另一个层面上来讲：万人齐挤独木桥体现了社会资源的稀缺，高薪岗位提供不足，社会水平发展相对落后。受教育程度良好的年轻人，都挤着想去做公务员，而不去进行相应的其他岗位建设，这确实是一种严重的浪费。
