据中央气象台台风专家指出，“海燕”有以下特点：登陆强度强、移动速度快、路径北翘并登陆越南北部属历史罕见、登陆后强度减弱慢路径东折属历史罕见。
据统计，“海燕”是我国建国以来11月份登陆或近海擦过海南的最强台风。
海南广西受灾7人死亡

据北海市供电公司通报，至11日11时30分，“海燕”已造成北海市北京路、云南路、石子岭等40余处路段停电。与北海相邻的防城港市，亦有多处路段因强风雨而断电。
琼海水库泄洪百余村庄被淹

携程旅行网相关负责人表示，携程昨天已启动重大自然灾害旅游体验保障基金和应急处理机制，为受台风影响而滞留和行程受阻的数百名三亚自由行游客提供应急服务，协助安排航班和住宿等行程，并且承担部分住宿等费用。“如果客人已经结束三亚行程并因台风影响无法返回，而航空公司不承担住宿费用，由携程承担延住费用，上限标准300元/间/夜，请客人保留酒店发票。对于11月10日、11日使用的三亚地面服务(接送机、一日游、用餐等)，给予全额退订或者免费改期。”
