Tim Berners-Lee在建立万维网时，为了不引起网络软件大战，他放弃了销售网络浏览器软件的念头，没有把这个伟大的发明商业化，以追逐物质回报。
Tim Berners-Lee认为，专利保护体系的建立自古就有，发展到今天，人类已经有了非常完善的专利和法律体系，但这一传统模式非常不适合用在移动互联网的软件之争中。
此前，苹果和三星的“世纪专利大战”依然历历在目，许多互联网公司都对“专利”二字非常谨慎，一方面尽力避免专利诉讼的官司，另一方面在全球范围内积极收购专利，构建专利壁垒。对于小公司来和小开发者来说要在这些专利壁垒之间生存实数不易。
针对这一情况，Tim Berners-Lee表示：“移动端上大多数的代码撰写对于很多优秀的工程师来说都不困难，所谓的专利保护，其实害处大于益处，长远地来看，反而限制了工程师和产品的发展。”
但是，Tim Berners-Lee认为，究竟应该为如何为移动互联网而改进现有的专利体系依然是一个难题。“目前，我还没有想到可行的想法和建议，因为这个牵涉到历史和区域等多个维度的问题，但是我认为现有的状况是不可行的，我也很期待未来会有更好地解决方法。”
Tim Berners-Lee同时向腾讯科技透露，万维网联盟（W3C）组织也不短在尝试新的计划，帮助互联网更好地服务于人类。其中一项最新计划就是在PC和移动端上构建一个全球的支付系统，为全球用户提供更为反方便的支付体验，比如说，在非洲和亚洲许多国家，很多人依然没有信用卡，但是借助这一个支付系统将可以轻松地实现网上支付。
“从我发明了万维网到现在，我很高兴看到互联网能够如此深刻地走入人们的生活，要知道在那之前，互联网曾经是一个奢侈品。所以，对于未来，万维网组织会不断地致力于更加公开开放的技术和项目，让互联网为全球更多人带来便利。”Tim Berners-Lee说道。
Tim Berners-Lee同时指出，语言目前还是一个限制互联网或者互联网产品国际化的最大因素。美国最先发明了互联网，英语的语言优势以及美国早期的互联网普及率，给予了美国互联网产极大的优势。“我很看好，翻译类的工具，它们将有可能打破语言的障碍，使得我们在互联网上的交流更为通畅，在这样一个基础上，不同地区的互联网产品，在全球范围内就有机会获得更大的成功，得到更多人的喜爱。”
