外语狂人翻译小众电影
据了解，小刘毕业于一所名牌大学，主修国际经济法专业。
小刘从小就喜欢画画和动漫，还爱看电影。不过他不推崇商业大片，更偏爱小众文艺电影。
为了更好地理解电影，小刘还自学了英语、法语、日语、德语、俄语、韩语。虽然已经毕业六七年，但他一直没有出去找工作，每天就流连于各大电影论坛，和一些发烧友们交流心得。
小刘在影视论坛和网友交流时发现，小众电影的传播渠道比较少，许多志趣相投的影迷都有着“想看看不到”的苦恼——文艺片比较难进入国内市场，而网上论坛有这个需求，特别是一些开设影视专业学校的学生，更苦于无片可看。于是，小刘就开始自己翻译这些电影，并且得到了很多网友的追捧。
扬子晚报记者了解到，小刘一共翻译了400多部电影，都是小众的文艺片。小刘说，现在国内能看到的一些国外小众文艺片，很多都是从他开始最先翻译的。
家里3600张光盘全是盗版
从2007年开始，小刘就将自己搜集的小众电影进行翻译，制作成字幕后刻制成光盘，再贴上打印的影视海报，在淘宝网上开设网店对外出售。
小刘始终强调，赚钱不是最终目的，自己追求完美，所有的字幕都是外挂的，绝对不是“贴”在屏幕上的，那样影响观看效果。而且，自己卖一张碟只要2.9元，光碟用的都是最好的，赚不到什么钱，因此获得了一大批网友的支持。
今年4月，小刘被江阴警方抓获，警方从他家中当场查货3600余张光盘，均被江阴市版权局鉴定为侵权盗版音像光盘复制品。为此，小刘被判处有期徒刑3年，缓刑3年6个月，并处罚金1万元。
为什么学法律还会走上犯罪的道路？小刘说，2007年的时候，他认为对版权查的不是很严格，自己也知道自己的行为触犯了版权法，但是由于自己对电影的热爱以及那么多网友的追捧，自己就铤而走险地做下来了。
“被告人的行为一方面损害著作权人的利益，同时也打击了创作者的积极性，妨害文化市场的创新。我们倡导广大市民支持正版，营造良好的市场环境。”承办此案的徐法官说。
在宣判后，小刘表示今后会正确发挥自己的才能，做更多有意义的事情，今后会去做翻译，不会再做违法犯罪的事情了。(所用姓名均为化名)
