Microsoft, Amazon and Apple technology giants over the past few years have already spends tens of billions of dollars to create the world's leading data center.
These companies trying to build massive infrastructure to accommodate thousands of computers are equipped with a special fiber optic and Ethernet server appliance, a complex network that it has dozens of GB/s the amazing performance.
But when the customer generates or when migrating TB and PB-level data, existing hardware still seemed overwhelmed.

On Monday, Microsoft announced a pilot service, which allows customers with hard drives to their United States data centers, where the staff will help us to manually upload data.
Likewise, if you're going to end up leaving Windows Azure: Microsoft is willing to put all data downloaded to your hard disk and then sent by courier to the user's hand.
This physical import/export service is released together with Microsoft series of update messages in a row this week. --Other types of changes, notably in the digital functions such as managing a virtual infrastructure and run their own sites on the Windows Azure services, and so on.
Microsoft Windows Azure, Corporate Vice President Scott Guthrie pointed out in a post:
Windows Azure allows you import/export services to a large number of internal moving data into or out of your Windows Azure storage account. In order to achieve this goal, we allow customers to directly to the hard disk drive to the Windows Azure data centers and complete data migration work in a safe manner.
As soon as we receive from the customer's hard disk, we will automatically start data migration work in a Windows Azure storage account. In this way, we can be more cost-efficient way to quickly realize the import or export of large amounts of data (and not constrained by the existing network bandwidth).
Such services seem to have a sense of the clock back, but its significance is very significant. Microsoft can work directly with hundreds of TB of customer data migration effort, without having to bring our little over limited network bandwidth to upload or download the Windows Azure-related data.
In this way, customers will quickly have a strong dependency on Windows Azure, Microsoft's cloud services under long-term operating earnings more.
Amazon under a lot of stress
As with many other cloud vendors, Microsoft has been trying to keep up with market leader and technology bosses Amazon.
Amazon Elastic computing (EC2) services beginning in June 2011, first to allow customers to manually upload or download by sending the hard disk data center of huge amounts of data.

这项物理导入/导出服务是本周一连同微软一系列云更新消息一同公布的。其它变更主要集中在数字化功能方面——例如管理虚拟基础设施并在Windows Azure服务上运行自己的站点等。
微软Windows Azure企业副总裁Scott Guthrie在博文中指出：
Windows Azure导入/导出服务允许大家将大量内部数据移进或者移出自己的Windows Azure存储账户。为了实现这一目标，我们允许客户将硬盘驱动器直接寄到我们的Windows Azure数据中心处，从而以最安全的方式完成数据迁移工作。
一旦收到来自客户的硬盘，我们就会自动开始Windows Azure存储账户内数据的迁移工作。这样一来，大家能够以更具成本效率的方式快速实现大量数据的导入或者导出（而不必受制于现有网络带宽）。
这样的服务方式似乎有种历史倒退之感，但它的现实意义却非常显著。微软能够直接处理数百TB客户数据的迁移工作，而不必让我们通过有限的网络带宽一点点上传或者下载这些Windows Azure相关数据。
通过这种方式，客户将迅速对Windows Azure产生强烈的依赖性，从而为微软的云服务带来更多远期运营收益。
Amazon压力很大
与众多其它云厂商一样，微软一直在努力紧跟市场龙头兼技术大佬Amazon。
Amazon弹性计算（简称EC2）服务自2011年6月开始，就率先允许客户通过寄送硬盘的方式手动上传或者下载数据中心当中的海量数据。
除了云功能之外，微软还尝试利用定价优势对Amazon发起冲击——其导入/导出服务的价格略低于云巨头。
Windows Azure的导入/导出服务价格为每块驱动器40美元：在试点期间价格还有进一步优惠——根据客户签订的Windows Azure合约的具体时长（半年或者一年），价格将在27.2美元到32美元之间浮动。而在Amazon方面，除了每块驱动器固定的40美元之外，整个数据上传或者下载过程中每小时还要额外收取2.49美元的数据中心使用费。
微软的服务只支持3.5英寸SATA II硬盘，最大容量不能超过4TB。数据分卷的格式也被限定为NTFS。
微软还非常贴心地为客户提供驱动器包邮服务——只要客户的收件地址在美国本土且与公司所在地一致（这就避免了竞争对手借鸡下蛋、依靠微软资源提供同类服务的可能）。Amazon则会根据数据中心与客户收件地址之间的距离收取“合理”的寄送费用——前提是收发两地位于同一国家；如果涉及跨国邮递或者希望使用快递服务，额外成本需要由客户方面承担。
