　　“祭祀抗日英烈，意义非凡。”来自台湾的常德同乡会会长刘云家说，海峡两岸同胞血脉相连、同根同源，应共同铭记历史，珍惜机遇，顺应潮流，以纪念抗战为交流平台之一，共谋祖国统一、民族振兴。

　　当年参加常德守城战役的老战士、91岁高龄的吴淞老人作为老兵代表讲话，表达了对长眠于此的战友们的深切怀念。

　　1943年的常德会战，是中国人民抗日战争中的著名重大战役之一，中国军队经过固守、失陷、克复三个阶段，历时30多天，终将日寇击退到原驻地，挫败了其占领常德的阴谋，为抗日战争全面胜利和世界反法西斯战争胜利起到了重大的作用，被称为“东方的斯大林格勒保卫战”。其中，参加常德守城战役的8500多名将士和常德民众，发扬“一寸山河、一寸血肉”的爱国热忱，同4倍于己的攻城日军苦战16昼夜，写下极为壮烈的一笔。

　　当天还举行了抗战老兵一对一结对援助活动，并开展了学术研讨。
