当地警方称，丰志均“对犯罪事实供认不讳，交代了蓄意制造爆炸报复社会的犯罪过程。”
警方暂时尚未公布丰志均的具体动机。南都记者采访得知，丰志均虽有前科，但早已出狱。邻居说他是个“好人”，家人也不明白他为什么要这么做。
丰志均的户籍所在地位于太原市杏花岭区大北门附近的平民路小区，小区邻居称，1996年，丰家和多数住户一样，因动迁搬至此小区。
如今，该小区正在拆迁，土地已规划建设某大型商业综合体，小区现有少数钉子户，而丰家和大多数住户一样，早已搬走。据悉，搬走的住户均已达成补偿协议。

邻居称，丰志均以开出租车为业，他与人合伙承包了一辆出租车，车身颜色为红色。两人轮流开，丰志均是夜班司机，妻子则在某服装城卖服装。
丰家的经济条件并不算差，丰家所住的是一套三居室，面积约130平米，二手房网站提供的信息显示，该小区目前平均单价在每平米6000元左右。丰家的客厅里摆放着米色沙发，布置和装修属于中等水平，与太原的普通家庭无异。

在岳父眼中，丰志均对长辈很孝顺，而且“特别守家”。此外，他也不讲究吃穿，除了上班，下班就呆在家里。与丰志均相熟的一个邻居说，丰志均“没什么乱七八糟的朋友”。
在家人看来，丰志均最大的爱好是钓鱼。在他家客厅的窗台上，南都记者看到两大桶鱼食。上述邻居也证实，丰志均常开车外出，驱车去太原南郊的晋阳湖钓鱼。
除了钓鱼，丰志均喜欢养宠物。目前他家养了只松鼠，丰志均有时带下楼，与邻居一起逗松鼠玩。
邻居和家人提供的信息，拼凑出一个普通的太原中年男人形象。
警方表示，丰志均曾因盗窃被判处有期徒刑9年。邻居表示，最起码2004年前后，他就已经出狱。
爆炸发生后，许多邻居对丰志均的行为感到不解，“挺好的人，咋办了个这糊涂事。”
同样感到不解的，还有丰志均的姐姐和岳父。两人均对南都记者表示，并不清楚丰志均的行为动机。作为最有可能了解真相的人，丰志均的妻子拒绝接受记者采访。
在家人和邻居面前，爆炸案前后，丰志均并未表现出异样。11月5日晚上，他仍正常出车上班。6日上午6点多，陈力明看到丰志均开车回家，丰志均开的是晚班，回家时间与平时无异。
上述邻居回忆，当时他邀请丰志均去自己家吃早饭，丰志均说：“不用了，还要招呼儿子上学。”
一个多小时后，7点40分，伴随着白色的烟雾，爆炸声从山西省委门口迎泽大街路边的绿化带中响起，随后连续响起数声爆炸，时间间隔从几十秒到几分钟不等。
这起震惊国内的爆炸案造成一死八伤。网友提供的现场图片显示，爆炸物内含有直径为手指粗细的钢柱和钢钉。一名伤者回忆，爆炸瞬间就像“抗战片”的情节。
家人证实，事发当晚和次日，即11月6日、7日晚上，丰志均仍正常出车上班。邻居则称，6日下午出车的时候，丰志均仍然跟邻居们打了招呼。
事发后，警方从丰志均住处缴获了私自制造的爆炸装置，发现了大量犯罪证据，并查获了其作案时驾驶的车辆。
