徐守盛说，当前至为关键的是加强主流舆论阵地的建设和管理，特别是要坚持政治家办报、办刊、办台、办新闻网站，牢牢掌握舆论引导的话语权，防止“非主流舆论场”成为思想舆论的自由市场。
徐守盛认为，主流舆论不等于只能搞正面报道，失去了正确的监督、积极的批评、反面的镜鉴，同样会失去主阵地、降低战斗力、减弱公信力和影响力。
