从一个农家子弟，以家庭式手工作坊起步，逐渐壮大成坐拥数亿元资产的行业翘楚，王检忠用他数十年的奋斗史，造就了他的资本帝国。
但他不曾料想的是，他也会遇到当下中国大多数企业都会碰到的难题：资金链困局。历经大风大浪的他希望能像过往一样，咬牙闯关，因为这意味着企业的生死存亡。
遗憾的是，他最终没有扛过这一关。在空气中带有些许凉意的南方城市湘潭，王检忠也迎来了他人生中最冷的一个“冬天”。
从农家子弟到亿万富豪
同大多数民营企业家一样，王检忠的发家史，亦是白手起家。
14日下午，中新网记者在恒盾集团采访时，辗转见到了王检忠的二哥——今年68岁、与他同创公司并合作10年的“同伴”。
王检忠3兄弟，他排行老么，上面还有两个哥哥。农家出身的王检忠，在他几岁时，父亲便离世，随着两位兄长相继到部队从军，家庭的重担全部落到了他一人身上。
为照顾家庭，初中还未毕业，囿于经济窘迫，王检忠无奈辍学。
初涉社会，王检忠便表现出他在管理与经营方面的才能，先后在村里当过生产队长，并任村里的企业主管。
一个偶然机会，王检忠准备自己创业。他看中了当时处于萌芽状态的砧板市场。
随后，王检忠自己在家里捣鼓起来，开始加工铁木砧板。1997年时，恰巧湘潭市羊古塘(地名)一家铸造厂经营不善面临倒闭，王检忠借机租赁该厂，家庭式作坊正式向工厂式模式转变。
时年，王检忠向从部队转业的二哥发出合作邀约，公司开始主打竹子砧板。
在为公司确定厂名时，王检忠与二哥合计商量，提出了他的美好愿景：希望公司能永恒长久，生产的砧板也能像盾牌一样，坚硬无比。借此寓意，最后取名为恒盾。1998年，王检忠注册成立“湘潭市恒盾竹制品厂”。
创业的初期阶段，历经艰辛。王检忠二哥介绍，建厂时，只有35人，大部分来自周边农村，身为老板的王检忠亲力亲为，每天自己开着农用车出去洽谈业务，自己装货卸货，起早贪黑。
差不多半年后，公司才开始步入正轨，却又遇到技术难题：圆形砧板外的铁箍，时常发生断裂。王检忠二哥回忆，为攻破这一难关，兄弟俩四处“求医问药”，有一次晚上深夜，还开着车去某钢铁厂问计专家。
到了春天，竹子砧板受潮后容易生霉，这个问题也一度困扰着恒盾公司。反复摸索试验无果后，王检忠拉上二哥，晚上开车去盛产竹片凉席的益阳市，偷偷去取经。
困难迎刃而解后，恒盾迎来了快速发展时期。1999年，王检忠在他的老家湘乡市租赁场地，开办分厂，签订了5年协议。此时，羊古塘公司与湘乡分厂的一年砧板销售量达到了20万块左右，员工人数1千多人。
2000年后，根据市场需要，王检忠将圆形的竹子砧板改为方形。有了原始资本，恒盾公司继续扩张，王检忠分两批次购买了湘潭市雨湖区二环线的地块，即如今恒盾集团总部的办公及生产用地。
2001年下半年，新址正式投产。至2004年时，王检忠提出，为方便管理，湘乡与羊古塘两个厂区全部迁入新址。
2005年8月，湘潭市恒盾竹制品厂注册成立恒盾集团，致力于楠竹综合开发，部分竹艺品对外出口。
接下来的几年，恒盾集团又相继在湖南邵阳城步县与怀化洪江市开设了两个加工生产分厂。
由分厂合并到总厂，再开办分厂，这不仅是企业扩张的表现之一，更多地呈现了此时恒盾集团的发展布局：厂区逐步转移至邵阳、怀化等山区，一方面那里竹子资源丰富，其次也可大大降低物流成本。
而时下恒盾集团总部所在的湘潭市雨湖区二环线，已成工业、贸易集中区，炙手可热。
按照王检忠的竹子帝国梦想，他希望将此地改成长株潭林产品商贸物流地，甚至在该地开发房产项目。
10余年的发展，这家当年名不见经传的小作坊已成为一个总资产达6.4亿元的竹制品开发销售集团。2010年，恒盾集团通过了国家级农业产业化龙头企业的认定。
企业发展遭遇资金链周转困局
事后看来，王检忠的算盘不仅是恒盾集团发展走势的重要一环，更攸关企业存亡。
每月15日，是恒盾集团员工发放工资的日子。即使偶尔拖欠，恒盾集团均会书面通知，并在承诺的时间段准时发放到位。
但恒盾集团员工们近期却察觉，公司资金链似乎出了大状况：除员工工资史无前例地被拖欠3个月未发放外，近一个星期来，老板王检忠很少出现在集团的办公大楼。
员工们心里有疑惑，但始终坚信老板王检忠的为人。13日下午，恒盾集团多位员工表示，他们在等待老板的答复。
岂料，员工们最终等来了老板王检忠跳楼自杀的噩耗。
尽管官方对王检忠缘何选择湘潭市政府办公大楼自杀的动机未作披露，原因不详，但中新网记者在多方走访调查中，一个细节被不断提及：王检忠生前，一直在为集团现有的地块“土地变性”问题奔走。
恒盾集团党委副书记刘伟14日下午在接受中新网记者采访时，也承认集团在资金周转上，确实遇到了麻烦。
王检忠的二哥也表示，相比于员工拖欠的工资，恒盾集团旗下位于长沙的“润泉山庄”及已经到期需偿还的一些贷款都在步步紧逼着王检忠。
资料显示，润泉山庄是由湖南省首批五星级乡村旅游景点，由恒盾集团为主体投资、精心打造的一处集养殖、种植、农业观光、垂钓休闲、旅游住宿于一体的综合性山庄，造价逾亿元。
刘伟在接受媒体采访时透露，2008年，恒盾公司作为投资主体建设了占地600多亩的润泉山庄，但恒盾并不拥有这500亩土地的产权，无法以此为抵押向银行借贷。
一位接近王检忠的人士私下评论称，在恒盾集团平缓发展期，集团扩张速度太快，加剧了资金链的周转困难。
而恒盾集团于2004年成立的恒源食品饮料有限公司，生产的“竹元素”竹汁饮料，也被业界人士视作是王检忠的又一败笔。
这款净含量310毫升，市场零售价为3.5元/罐的饮料对外宣称，“竹元素”竹汁饮料是恒盾集团恒源食品饮料有限公司和美国TONIC生物科技有限公司、湖南省林科院共同研制的高新科技功能性饮品，富含竹叶黄酮、氨基酸、多种维生素和锗等多种微量元素，产品不含防腐剂和色素，属纯天然、绿色无污染食品。
刘伟回忆说，当年提议成立饮料公司正是老板王检忠的想法。王检忠说，国宝熊猫喜欢吃竹子，说明竹叶中含有大量的有益元素，何不也将竹汁提炼出来，作供人食用的饮料？
集团中，没有人反对他。但市场证明，这个决定，至少是失误的。记者在湖南湘潭之外的多个地市商场超市并未找到该款饮料的踪影。
刘伟认为，竹元素灌装饮料的当前现状，与宣传推广力度不够等多方面因素有关。
当多重因素叠加到一起，恒盾集团将所有的赌注都押注到了集团总部的地块上。
刘伟接受外埠的一家媒体采访时表示，今年4月，恒盾集团试图把集团拥有产权的108亩工业用地转换为商业用地，集团搬至工业新区。此举目的，是为了得到更多资金，恒盾集团目前在多个银行有2亿元负债。尽管主营的竹产品销售很好，去年实现4700万元收入，但光靠此已无法满足要支付的利息，必须从其他银行再借钱才能填补。但银行的整体放贷都有所收紧，恒盾如今从银行能借到的钱比以前少了。“因为我们的抵押物不够。”刘伟解释道，这些年为了借钱已抵押了很多。
“商业用地价值比工业用地价值高，集团土地性质转换的申请如果能够通过，就能从银行得到更高的评估价格”，刘伟说。
同时，据记者了解，有些投资者也意欲与恒盾集团合作，但前提是“必须看到政府对该地块的正式批文”。
善后事宜仍在协商
王与往常一样，偶尔问问公司的运转的最新情况。只是离事发的前一个星期，到办公室的次数减少。
王检忠的妻子何平香透露，事发当日，也就是12日下午两点多钟，王检忠还在家里吃了饭，可只吃了一点点，随后说去市政府办事，并交待说晚饭回家吃。
与王检忠共事12年的刘伟，至今不相信王检忠会跳楼。在他看来，王检忠性格开朗，也很热心公益事业。家庭幸福，有4个女儿，均已成家。
14日下午，中新网记者在湘潭市政府大楼B栋乘坐电梯来到事发的15楼，根据电梯里的楼层提示，该楼层显示为湘潭市商务局(湘潭市招商合作局)。在离15楼东侧洗手间不远处，顶上安装有监控摄像头。在15楼的卫生间窗户上，记者看到，已被安装新的螺丝钉，窗户只能打开小部分，上面还贴有黑色的刻度标记。记者在政府大楼的其它多个楼层，发现窗户均被新的螺钉固定。
从王检忠进入政府大楼到事发，到底经历了什么？至今无人知晓。当地官方以正在调查为由，暂未披露详细信息。
至15日记者发稿时止，当地政府仍在与死者家属紧急协商善后事宜。
