作为一个2002年出生的小男孩，你被称为“互联网一代”（其实还有其它很多种叫法，比如触屏一代，比如数字一代，这些说法我以后再和你解释）。没有电脑就没有我们今天都在使用的互联网——当然你也不可能玩4399小游戏了。这封信，我就来和你聊聊你每天都在使用的电脑，究竟是什么东西？
你的第一台电脑是你老爸我05年在香港买的17寸笔记本，这是一家名字叫“戴尔”的美国公司生产的，它曾经是全世界生产销售电脑最厉害的公司，不过今天这个荣誉属于中国的联想公司。你应该注意到这台电脑就像一个只有两页（虽然这个页比较厚）的作业本：一页就是它的屏幕，一页则是它的键盘和鼠标。
这两页，其实是有专门名词的。那个屏幕，我们把它叫“输出装置”，你通过这个屏幕看到各种东西，比如一段视频，或者是一个游戏人物。而那个有键盘和鼠标的，我们就叫它“输入装置”，如果你在“输入装置”上不进行任何输入，输出装置上就不会出现任何东西。输入和输出，是我们和电脑最直接接触的部分，嗯，顺便把这两个词的英文也记一下：输入（input），输出（output）。
作为输入和输出，电脑不是生来就是这样的。在你已经出生但还不太懂事的时候，我们家的电脑的输出装置，是一个很笨重的东西。它四四方方，就像你奶奶家里卧室那台厚重的电视机（当然尺寸小了一些），比你现在每天都在背的书包都重。这么重的东西，怎么可能放在笔记本上让人带来带去呢？后来人们发明了“液晶屏”——就是你现在看到的这种屏幕，可以做得很大，但它很薄，当然，就轻了很多。你现在在用的第二台电脑是台式机，它虽然不方便搬来搬去，但我敢打赌，你提起这个21寸的屏幕（可比你的笔记本的屏大哦）并不会费什么力气。
在输入装置上，人们的发明就更多了。早些年的时候，人们用的是一种叫“磁带机”的东西。这个东西你老爸我都没用过，我一开始接触电脑的时候用的就是键盘，按下一个“A”，屏幕上就出现一个“A”。我的第一台电脑是没有鼠标的，要过上那么一两年，我才去买了一个鼠标。当你在挪动鼠标的时候，屏幕上的那根指针会随之移动。我们就是这样“输入”，然后让屏幕做相应的“输出”的。
写到这里，小宝你大概已经发现，电脑有两种样子，一种是像一本本子的17寸笔记本，一种则是你今天在用的屏幕放在桌上，桌下还有一台机器的所谓“台式机”，而且，它还有一个键盘一个鼠标，这四样东西可不是在一起的。同样一个名字，怎么就冒出来完全两种不同的东西呢？
不要着急，还有呐，你每天都要玩一下的iPad就更有趣了，它有一个屏——嗯，这是一个输出装置，它的输入装置在哪里？你怎么向这个东西发出你想要的指令的？——比如，这个视频给我暂停一下——你是摸的！拿你的手指去触碰那个屏的！——可不就是触屏输入？
是的，人们在输入装置上又向前推了一步，从键盘鼠标发展到了触屏：这个屏幕不仅仅是用来输出图像文字了，它还可以直接成为我们的输入装置。是不是有些神奇？
还没完呐！你是不是一度很喜欢玩逃亡类游戏（我们其实叫它跑酷类游戏）？你操控一个人物跳上跳下拼命奔跑，想想你是怎么操控的？是不是拿着iPad左摇一下右晃一下？这又是一种我们输入的方式，利用iPad里的一个叫陀螺仪的装置，使得我们对iPad的晃动，让iPad明白，哦，你这是要让游戏人物向左拐弯。这个方式，笔记本也好台式机也好，它们可不会。你不信摇晃一下你的台式机屏幕试试？
再来看看你半年前还特别喜欢玩的WII？你挥舞着一个遥控器，那个拳击手就懂得左右开弓或者抱头防守。怎么做到的？我们把这种方式称为“动作输入”，你的挥舞动作，就是一种输入，WII接受到了这些动作指令，让拳击手做出相应的动作。
所以，电脑不在乎它到底长什么样子，而在于：它必须有一个输入装置，也必须有一个输出装置。不过，不晓得你看到这里有没有这样一个问题：一个指令输入，屏幕上为什么会怎样显示？这就是构成电脑的第三个必需品：算法。
算法这事，说起来就复杂咯，我们在下一封信里再聊聊？在这封信里，你要知道的就是，电脑是由输入输出算法三样东西组成的，至于它到底长成什么样，不重要。现在我来问你，上个星期老爸送你的那块智能手表，是不是电脑啊？
