王检忠有3兄弟，父亲在他几岁时便离世，为照顾家庭，王检忠初中未毕业就无奈辍学。

创业的初始阶段历经艰辛。王检忠的二哥介绍，建厂时只有35人，大部分来自周边农村，身为老板的王检忠亲力亲为，每天开着农用车出去洽谈业务，自己装货卸货，起早贪黑。差不多半年后，公司才开始步入正轨，却又遇到技术难题。圆形砧板外的铁箍时常发生断裂，为攻破这一难关，兄弟俩深夜还开着车去某钢铁厂问计专家。春天，竹子砧板受潮后易生霉，为此，王检忠又拉上二哥，晚上开车去盛产竹片凉席的益阳市偷偷取经。

遗书未公开跳楼动机成谜

刘伟14日下午在接受记者采访时也承认，恒盾集团在资金周转上确实遇到了麻烦。王检忠的二哥也表示，相比于拖欠员工的工资，恒盾集团旗下位于长沙的“润泉山庄”的周转费用及已经到期需偿还的一些贷款都在步步紧逼着王检忠。
刘伟在接受媒体采访时透露，2008年，恒盾公司作为投资主体建设了占地600多亩的润泉山庄，但恒盾并不拥有这些土地的产权，无法以此为抵押向银行借贷。

作为典型的家族企业，没有了董事长的恒盾集团，似乎一下失去了主心骨。事发后，恒盾集团及王检忠家属紧急打报告给当地政府，称集团“所涉债权债务数额十分巨大”，希望当地政府给予帮助。
