据了解，最高人民法院开通微博、微信，主要立足于人民法院的司法实践和新媒体的发展趋势，目标是将官方微博、微信建成推进全国法院司法公开、实现为民服务的重要载体和平台，搭建人民法院和广大群众之间互动交流的新媒体桥梁。
据介绍，最高人民法院将通过新媒体平台，及时发布最高人民法院和地方法院的重大审判信息、重要司法解释、重点工作情况等信息，不断推进司法公开，主动回应社会关切，拓宽接受监督渠道。官方微博、微信还将与最高人民法院官方网站开设的“院长信箱”、“代表委员建言”、 “失信被执行人名单查询”等栏目联动，从而推动形成功能相对齐全、职能相对明确的新媒体集群，进一步增强官方微博、微信在推进司法公开、提升司法公信方面的作用。
最高人民法院要求全国各级人民法院加强新媒体建设，积极主动运用新媒体平台，与人民群众加强沟通，促进公开、公正司法，为人民法院进一步提升司法形象，提升司法公信力，不断进行新探索、做出新贡献。
