11月21日，记者通过电话了解到，新和县公安局交警大队的民警到达现场后，先拨打了120，并对道路进行封闭，之后与急救人员一起救援，经确认，有4人当场死亡，3人在送往医院后抢救无效死亡，伤者中1人重伤。
该大队队长柴杰在电话中说：“载客面包车是从南向北由库车县驶往新和县，重型货车是由北向南行驶，从现场的情况初步判断，有可能是载客面包车占道行驶，最终致使这起交通事故发生。目前，具体原因仍在调查中。”
