在此次谈判中，三方将举行商品、服务、投资、竞争、知识产权、电子商务领域的工作小组会议和有关环境、政府采购、食品领域的专家对话。
韩国产业资源通商部表示，目前中日韩三方处于谈判初级阶段，正在对谈判的框架和重点开展工作。作为东亚经贸框架安排的重要组成部分，中日韩自贸区FTA在2012年11月正式宣布启动，并分别在今年3月于韩国首尔完成了首轮谈判，今年7月30日至8月2日在上海完成第二轮谈判。在前两轮谈判中，三方讨论了自贸区的机制安排、谈判领域及谈判方式等议题。上个月10月22日至23日，中日韩三方在首尔举行了三国FTA第三轮谈判的筹备会议，主要讨论了商品贸易谈判模式及第三轮谈判的具体安排。
根据日本共同社报道，三国在筹备会议上表示，将争取在2015年年底前结束谈判进程，这也是中日韩与涉及区域全面经济伙伴关系自由贸易谈判的其他13国希望达成协议的时间。
