今日下午，有媒体曝出12306手机客户端下载页面，网址为kyfw.12306.cn/otn/appDownload/init，该下载页面上提供了苹果iOS和谷歌Android两个版本的下载入口，其中Android版可以顺利下载，iOS版暂时无法获取。报道称用户安装后可在手机上实现车票查询和购买等功能。
中新网记者登录12306网站发现，该网站主页上找不到这款应用的下载和推广入口，但进入上述网址可以顺利下载Android版的“铁路12306”。记者下载安装后发现，这款官方应用的Android版名称为“铁路12306”，提供“车票预订”、“订单查询”、“我的12306”、“更多功能”等服务选项。
客户端显示，目前该软件为试运行版本，版权所有是中国铁路客户服务中心，技术支持为中国铁道科学研究院和中铁程科技有限公司提供。中新网记者使用发现，该软件在使用中不断出现反应较慢，甚至崩溃退出的情况。
原铁道部曾表示将于2012年9月底推出手机购票应用程序“掌上12306”，该软件支持苹果IOS和安卓两个平台，上线后旅客可免费下载和使用。通过该软件，旅客可以查询全国铁路各车次时刻、预订火车票，并能够通过手机支付系统完成在线支付。
