梅贻琦在我国近代教育史上的地位堪与蔡元培比肩，其经历几乎与清华大学这所驰名中外的高等学府在解放前的历史相始终。梅贻琦一生讷言敏行，成就卓著但著述寥寥，日记成为研究他教育生涯和思想的第一手资料。此前梅贻琦的长篇手稿从未见于收藏市场。而在即将举行的西泠印社秋季拍卖会上，将呈现一部珍贵的《梅贻琦日记》手稿，其内容始于1945年9月10日，终于1946年4月12日，恰值抗战结束、西南联大即将复校的前夕。日记内容涵盖了联大及清华校史上至关重要的两桩事件：全国教育善后复原会议及对清华战后复校的筹备；昆明“一二·一”运动后对学生的处理与复课。同时，日记还涉及到梅贻琦与当时许多重要的文化教育界人物之间的往来，如司徒雷登、傅斯年、朱家骅、梁思成、闻一多、吴晗、蒋梦麟等。
据介绍，近现代名人手稿、信札的文献价值正逐渐受到藏界的重视。除了梅贻琦的日记手稿，此次西泠印社秋季拍卖会的“近现代名人手迹专场”，还将特设外国名人手迹专题，细分为英国文学、法国文学、诺贝尔文学奖、政治家及科学家数个专题。狄更斯、哈代、柯南道尔、雨果、左拉、大小仲马、泰戈尔、罗曼·罗兰、罗素、赛珍珠、村上春树、门罗、罗斯福、丘吉尔、莱特兄弟、爱因斯坦等一大批19至21世纪欧亚著名文史哲大师及政治领袖、科学发明家相关藏品将集体亮相。这一系列藏品在形式上包括了亲笔信、签名信、明信片、签赠书(藏书票)、签名照等，除了可以借此欣赏大师日常生活中的行文风范、考察当时文化情境及人物交往外，名人专用信笺、实寄信封贺卡也独具设计美感，颇具看点。
据悉，此次西泠印社秋拍将于12月11日至13日在杭州浙江世贸展厅预展，14日至17日正式拍卖。
