据下花园区文广新局相关负责人介绍，石窟附近曾经是铁路部门的货运煤台，但该煤台已多年弃之不用，余煤早已清运完毕。由于石窟处在铁轨下方的一个岩坑内，是一座单窟，遇风沙天气容易将煤台地表残留的煤尘连同风沙一起吹进石窟，致使石佛表面覆盖了一层浮尘。
