曾俊华以“虚虚实实”为题，称比特币的交易纪录虽然完全公开，包括哪个账户参与什么交易、结余有多少，全是公开资料，但因为一个人可以拥有无限账户，而且没有人知道账户拥有人的身份，无法防止自买自卖行为，造市抬高比特币的汇价。
根据英国广播公司(BBC)中文网站报导，自从美国参议院在11月早些时候就比特币展开听证，并形容比特币为“合法金融服务”之后，比特币的价值迅速上升。参与比特币交易的主要交易商MTGox表示，一比特币的价值首次超过了1000美元。
但据内地《21世纪经济报道》日前报导，中国人民银行副行长易纲在一场论坛上表示，央行近期不可能承认比特币的合法性。但报导同时引述易纲指出，比特币“很有特点”，具有“启发性”，普通民众拥有参与其买卖的自由。
曾俊华指出，比特币没有实物或发行人支持，不保证可以兑换成实体经济的货币或商品。严格来说，现时仍不算上是电子货币，只是可以进行私人或网上交易的“虚拟货币”。
曾俊华又指出，现时虽然有公司愿意收取比特币，但似乎很大程度是憧憬它会继续升值，多于节省交易成本等实际经济考虑。
曾俊华更关注，因为网络的匿名性质，追查比特币的资金来源亦非常困难，该平台对洗黑钱活动很有吸引力，因此可能招来国际社会联手取缔或规管，影响比特币的价值。
曾俊华总结认为，比特币日后会出现泡沫爆破，或是成为独当一面的跨国界电子支付系统，现时无人有肯定的答案。
