Academia Sinica rejects genetically modified food risks that

Academia Sinica rejects genetically modified food risk said: people eat genetically modified pork becomes | | | filter _ the Government news

"Genetically modified foods on human health effects? Americans eat not eat genetically modified foods? Genetically modified foods will make people, may you die sonless, please? Why genetically modified food controversies so much? Yesterday afternoon, the first transgenic Carnival held in Satoyama art space, academician Chen junshi, "just go," who responded to some doubts on GM issues. ”

At yesterday's event, several well-known "turn" people--Chinese Academy of engineering, one of the founders of food toxicology in China Chen junshi, food science and nutritional engineering, China Agricultural University professor Luo Yunbo, Dean, researcher at the Institute of genetics and developmental biology, Zhu Zhen, Director of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Institute of biotechnology Lin Min, responded to the controversy of genetically modified foods.

"Just go" believe genetically modified food safety

Academician Chen junshi said the current scientific experiments against genetically modified foods are preset and they have a problem, but the result was not detected the problem, so he believes that genetically modified food may be safe to consume.

"Inverted" people's view of genetically modified foods can have an impact on ethnic descendants of genes, or even cause, may you die sonless. Professor Luo Yunbo's view, this is because in Chinese culture has "unnatural three ways", so may you die sonless words can evoke the most sensitive and the most fragile nerves.

Luo Yunbo, absolute safety of food is not, and transgenic food safety does not lower than traditional "ordinary food if you follow the less strict standards to detect genetically modified foods are not pass, such as tofu, lamb kebab, genetically modified food is a more secure Government help filter food. ”

GM information will progressively open and transparent

Yesterday's event, came hundreds of audiences, main part of the event was to genetically modified doubt the audience to several "turn" people ask questions. Tit-for-tat, several experts take turns to play, sometimes the delegation to answer the same question.

Worries about the safety of genetically modified food for audience, Chen junshi said the Governments of all countries in the world research and development has a set of strict rules on genetically modified food, in China as well. A genetically modified crops or animals, laboratory research and development, to the consumer's table, at least on the one at the end of 8-10, this is a serious process. Chen junshi believes that a lot of people misunderstanding comes from the understanding of these procedures is not enough "I get from the official news is that all of these processes and procedures will become more transparent, and gradually open. ”

Listeners considered that foreigners do not eat genetically modified foods, "just go" experts deny that "more Americans than we ate about a dozen years, said Americans don't eat GM is talking about. "Several" just go "expert controversy so large GM attributed to lack of public scientific literacy.

GM is not just about agriculture

Against genetically modified food safety should be managed by departments which issues, Chen junshi said the State Department under the Ministry of agriculture is responsible for all research, development, and testing of genetically modified crops and animals, but scientists in the health sector will also participate in safety evaluation. Nutrition and food safety, for example, Chinese Center for disease control and prevention, National Center for food safety risk assessment, "so it's not just the Ministry of agriculture or health departments, other departments under the State Council have taken part in. ”

Pig "tried" genetically modified rice to prove that the consumption of genetically modified food safety?

Professor Agriculture University in response to this trial has nothing to do with security

Recently there have been media reports, the Ministry of Agriculture of genetically modified rice in China Agricultural University mini-pigs 90 day feeding test, testing official said that the pig for testing during the 90-day feeding indicators are normal. Public questioning of the pilot to prove the swill with transgenic food safety, thus proving that human consumption is safe.

In this regard, Luo Yunbo, Dean of Agriculture University food science and nutritional engineering North Green newspaper reporter said it was a misunderstanding. Ambassador Shannon is a pig feeding experiments have been done, but nothing to do with security. The experiment was purely scientists to explore the transgenic technology in other areas, such as bio-pharmaceuticals, for possible use in the field. Is that reporter asked the head of experimental mice ate the genetically modified rice is safe? Chief said rats eat okay, pigs also failed. Reports out there, a lot of people thought this experiment by making genetically modified rice pigs eat 90 days to prove its safety.

 Dialog

Interlocutor: the Chinese Academy of engineering academician Chen junshi

North Green: as a food safety experts in the field, do you think that genetically modified food is safe?

Chen junshi: GM is modern biotechnology, transferring foreign gene to the original stuff. In fact, any new agricultural varieties to some is the result of genetic changes, including hybrid rice.

We ate the food inside has genetic, digestive tract to the stomach is case insensitive gene and transgene. Genes cannot be integrated into a person's body, people eat pork will turn into pigs?

North Green: the idea that genetically modified foods are at risk, and therefore agreed with the production of genetically modified foods will not rush?

Chen junshi: you do have risk, and fly without risk? Why do people sit? Zero risk does not exist, we have to within the acceptable range, GM, too.

Is the risk of public opinion, we cannot afford the risk of social unrest, the Government's support for GM stalled because of this. We face a real risk of timing is already affect adversely the development of genetically modified.

North Green: why transgenic controversy so much?

Chen junshi: food safety we are very concerned about GM projects invested a lot, but not much popular this place, and also was stopped, leading to insufficient public awareness, the situation appears.

This was supposed to be a science question, but it's not a science question. In this issue, scientists are defeated.
