法院认为，被害人邓正加死亡的直接原因是畸形脑血管破裂致蛛网膜下腔广泛出血死亡，四被告人的伤害行为是导致畸形脑血管破裂的诱因，再结合四被告人的自首情节及在本案中所起的作用，法院最终审定对廖卫昌予以从轻处罚，对袁城、骆威平、夏际玉予以减轻处罚。
庭审结束后，南都记者联系上瓜农邓正加之子邓青强，他和两名亲属昨日全程旁听了庭审过程。对法院的这一判决结果，邓青强表示难以接受，认为量刑偏轻，其他家属也对此表示不满。“我们觉得，这样审判不公平，为什么夏俊峰打死城管判了死刑，城管打死老百姓只判11年，轻的甚至只有3年半？”
