为此,我们来到了它的诞生地,坐落在上海市浦东新区新金桥路的华为上海研发中心,作为华为全球16大研发中心之首的上海研发中心,这里曾经诞生了包括P1、P2、P6、D1、D2、Mate、荣耀2、荣耀3等在内的众多机型。
当你走进这座地上5层,地下3层,单体建筑面积号称与上海最高建筑环球金融中心一个量级的庞然大物,顿时感觉宛若置身一艘航空母舰一般。华为上海研发中心员工多达10000人,但当你穿梭在一眼望不到头的中庭时,却几乎看不到太多的员工,而这里也不像研究院那么死板,甚至不像是一个制造企业,倒是有种逛超级购物中心的感觉。
出于一种职业习惯,在这栋建筑物里我经常会掏出随身携带的4G手机来看看信号——老实说整个上海的4G信号都不太好,上海研发中心这里也没有给我太多的惊喜。但是以华为在LTE网络方面的建设成绩来说(商用合同位列世界第一,参与部署了全球将近半数的LTE网络),不在自家门口搞点“小特权”,似乎有点说不过去啊。
不过当我们进入到华为全球领先的MLab、通信协议测试实验室的时候,发现了隐藏在这栋楼里的小秘密。以MLab为例,这里负责研究用户、终端和业务的趋势与变化,在网络架构、资源效率、用户体验、商业模式上进行方案创新,目前他们正与视频网站合作,挖掘4G资源重新分配的问题,因此良好的4G信号是工作的必须。在这间实验室里,华为搭设了自己的4G室内分系统,信号好到爆棚,只是出了这个房间就几乎搜索不到了。而这样“借工作之便”的分系统,甚至更快的移动网络信号(速度也许超出4G的范畴了)在这栋大厦的实验室里比比皆是,算是这个“4G小王国”里的一大特色。
在接下来的很多实验室里,我们都看到了华为D2的身影,虽然它不是最新的4G产品,但对于华为来说却有着特殊的意义,D2早在今年6-7月份就参与了中移动测试,是最早一款获得入网许可证的TD-LTE产品,可以说无论中移动还是华为,D2都是一款标杆型的产品,因此也就在内部一直沿用至今,当然还有另外一个原因,那就是D2 LTE版是当下下载速度最快的4G手机。
提到最快速4G手机这个话题,华为终端手机产品线总裁何刚颇为骄傲,他向我们介绍到,D2 LTE版最早于今年10月在日本上市,是全球第一款支持下行150Mbps的终端产品,其采用的海思芯片规格为CAT 4,而市面上其他TD-LTE手机大多采用CAT 3芯片,要追赶上这一规格尚需时日。
当然华为的下一步目标已经订好,那就是下行达到300Mbps的CAT 6类终端产品,这款产品会在今年底或明年初于日本上市,毫无疑问它绝对是行业里速度最快的4G设备,再一次刷新纪录。
CAT是Category的缩写,意思是“种类、类别”,代表LTE的发展阶段,CAT 3和CAT 4的上行峰值都是50Mbps,不同的是CAT 3下行峰值为100Mbps,而CAT 4下行峰值则达到150Mbps。
在我们之前的实地测试中,包括三星N7108D、华为G716、索尼M35t,甚至iPhone5s在内的4G手机,下载速度都相当接近,并没有哪款产品表现得特别突出,唯独华为D2 LTE版这款手机,能够高出其他产品20-30%。虽然当下运营商在基站端并未部署更快速的网络设备,理论上也无法发挥出华为D2的全部功力,但即便是在上限理论值100Mbps的网络环境中,D2依然能有超人的发挥,最大功劳就是来自海思CAT 4芯片。
而这一说法也得到了北京移动的官方证实,在他们的使用和测试中,D2也是速度表现最好的产品。对于运营商来说,在初期的高覆盖,中期的高密度之后,4G的提速也就会被提上日程。实际上据北京移动相关人士透露,明年中后期就会会开展这项工作,而初期的目标很可能是200Mbps的网速级别,这也与华为下一步计划中的CAT 6终端产品不谋而合。
在接下来探秘的大话务量实验室当中,华为D2被分为三组共240部产品进行负载压力测试,每个机柜中都有同时运行的80部D2手机,它们会按照比例运行不同的网络程序,以模拟用户在网页、SNS、游戏等方面的实际使用情况,藉此评估网络设备的性能和稳定性。这项实验的实际意义在于,在运动会、演唱会、大型展会等人流密集场所,成千上万部手机同时上网会带来极大的负载压力,如果超过基站的承载能力,运营商或供应商都会出动应急通信车,而堪比小型基站的通信车所能够承载的网络压力,实际上就是这个实验室所要模拟出来的。
在最有趣的可靠性实验室当中,可以看到这里就像是大学的物理课堂一般,各种机械臂都在一股脑的蹂躏手机,虽然看起来很心疼,但这样才能保证出厂的手机具备在“实战”环境中生存的能力,例如D2具备的防水防尘能力,就需要在这个实验室中经过长时间测试之后才能得以保证。
而像这种有趣又严酷的测试,还包括滚筒跌落测试、按键耐久测试、载重测试、USB接口插拔耐久测试、扭曲测试和针对触摸屏的钢珠跌落、弹簧锤以及拉拔测试等等,可以说就算是用户没有想到的使用场景,在这里也都预先做过考量了,因此从某种程度上来说,我们的手机也并非那么弱不禁风。
另外我们还注意到D2的一个细节,这款产品并未随着中国移动取得TD-LTE牌照而大规模推广上市,仅有部分地区的移动营业厅可以买到,对于这样一款被冠以“速度之王”的4G产品来说,似乎有些不公。
实际上这里面有一个非常核心的技术问题,那就是D2采用了CSFB(电路域回落)语音方案,而在TD-LTE这个技术标准上,中国移动采用了双待机的语音方案,如果要支持CSFB就必须升级核心网,这个费用开销将是百亿级的,并且在基站协议没有调试好的时候,CSFB的通话延时和掉话情况时有发生,这令D2天生就蒙上了一层悲情色彩,甚至一度丧失与其他双待产品同场竞技的机会。
但是令D2时来运转的居然是自己在手机领域的老对手苹果公司,随着今年夏天苹果CEO蒂姆库克来华,中国移动在CSFB方案上的态度也有了明显转变,因为iPhone 5s/5c使用的也是CSFB方案,而中国移动在iPhone发布7年之后,这一次是志在必得,因此在经过改造升级后,iPhone 5s/5c顺利与中国移动签订销售合作协议,同时D2也得以在CSFB方案改造后有了更大的发展空间,令这样一款“元老级”产品得以延续。
对于D2 LTE这款产品来说,可能很多人只看到了它在外观上与普通版D2一模一样,了无新意,或者只是体验到了它的极速上网,实际上这个第一的头衔并不是那么容易就能取得的,即便是在上一代产品基础上的升级之作,对于厂商来说也是近乎全新的产品,所有工序都要重新来过,特别是在4G商用之初难度更大。而产品完全就绪之后,还可能要面对政策和技术趋势的变化,稍纵即逝的商机,以及竞争对手的布局,这对于做产品和技术出身的人来说,可能是最难把握的事情。
