据介绍，此次哈沪高铁所使用的是之前哈大高铁所使用的CRH380B型高寒动车的升级版，由长春轨道客车股份有限公司自主设计研发，在之前哈大高铁运行试验的基上进行了高寒过渡基数调整，是目前世界上首款在实际运用环境温差达到80摄氏度环境中运用的时速300公里的高速动车组。
哈尔滨铁路部门介绍，今年12月28日之前，哈尔滨直达上海只有一趟既有线快速旅客列车，运行时间近32个小时，常年客流紧张，特别是春运期间更是求大于供，哈尔滨西至上海虹桥高铁列车将极大缓解2014年春运旅客运输压力。明年哈大高铁实行夏季运行图后，哈尔滨至上海、北京、天津、青岛等各车次动车组列车还将进一步压缩运行时间，为广大旅客提供更加快捷便利的出行选择。
