庭审过程中，新生儿父母是否感染传染病、新生儿能否通过父母传染疾病成为庭审焦点，对于法官和公诉人的提问，张淑侠多次以自己不太了解传染病和遗传的知识为由不置可否。
犯罪嫌疑人张淑侠是陕西富平县妇幼保健院妇产科副主任，涉嫌多次以新生儿患有传染性疾病和先天畸形等为由，建议家属放弃新生儿，而后将婴儿贩卖。
涉案医生多次称婴儿患先天性疾病
2013年7月16日，陕西富平县薛镇村村民董某(23岁)在富平县妇幼保健院分娩过程中，富平县妇幼保健院妇产科副主任张淑侠告知董某及其家属“新生婴儿患有先天性传染病及先天残疾”。于是，新生婴儿父亲表示自愿放弃并自行委托医生张淑侠对新生婴儿进行处置。随后，婴儿家属质疑婴儿被拐卖，并向富平县公安局城关派出所报案。
经初步调查，此案系一跨省拐卖婴儿团伙案件。7月16日晚，在董某分娩后，张淑侠以“婴儿患有先天性疾病”为由，诱使家属放弃对婴儿治疗并交由自己处理。在此过程中，张淑侠与山西的犯罪嫌疑人潘某取得联系，17日凌晨3时，潘某、崔某驾车从山西来到富平，从张淑侠家中以2.16万元将婴儿买走，后又以3万元将婴儿贩卖给其他犯罪嫌疑人。
案发后，不断有曾在富平县妇幼保健院生产的产妇和家属，向富平警方报案，他们怀疑自己在富平妇幼保健院出生的孩子也曾被医务人员用相同手法进行处理。
陕西省社会科学院副院长石英认为，张淑侠“新生婴儿患有先天性传染病及先天残疾”的说辞抓住了农村群众的心理特点，因为这些说辞会让家属觉得生出残疾孩子让乡亲们耻笑，而“花费几十万”的说法则利用农村群众“怕花钱”、“花不起钱”的现实，对他们形成了强大的心理压力，从而作出放弃决定。
陕西富平副县长等6责任人被免职
8月8日，陕西省省长娄勤俭主持召开专题会议，研究部署富平县拐卖新生儿案件处置工作。他强调，要依法严厉打击犯罪分子，不惜一切代价解救被拐卖儿童，给群众和社会以交待。
娄勤俭指出，富平县拐卖新生儿案件是一起情节极其严重、性质极其恶劣、社会影响极坏、严重威胁人民群众生命安全的恶性事件，必须以对人民群众高度负责的态度，扎实做好相关工作。
8月9日，陕西富平县对相关责任人组织处理进行了宣布，该县副县长李雷平、卫生局局长汲新民、分管副局长卞慈梅、妇幼保健院院长王莉、分管副院长姚军民和分管护理工作的工会主席宋粉玲等6人被免职，并将根据案件侦办进展情况，严格依法依规依纪对相关人员严肃追究相应责任。
据当地警方透露，截至8月9日，公安机关已接到群众报案55起，其中涉及嫌疑人张淑侠的26起(经初步核查确定10起不属于刑事案件)，立案查实5起，其它正在核查中。其中，“7·20”案件中的新生儿和此前被贩卖的一对双胞胎共3人已获救。张淑侠等9名犯罪嫌疑人被警方刑事拘留。
