早在2010年，就有吉林省的人大代表提出，现有的大桥桥面和桥体已严重老化，已经不能满足目前中朝两国客货运输的需要。随着图们江区域国际合作开发的推进，新桥的建设迫在眉睫。
而来自珲春当地的消息显示，新桥的勘测工作已经启动，其位置将位于老桥旁边。据介绍，新建的跨境大桥主要用于货运车辆通行，老跨境大桥将继续保留，成为观光和客运通道。
分析认为，新桥建成后将有利于加强中朝两国的经济贸易以及人员往来，对吉林省的内贸货物跨境运输和图们江区域合作开发将起到促进作用。(完)
