柔软显示屏薄如蝉翼

平铺时是个形状与普通手机类似、但更加纤薄的平板状显示器,卷曲时可以像手镯一样套在手腕上。卷起来放在口袋里是一个卷筒形式的塑料薄板,打开后就能像报纸一样阅读。

在京东方的实验室里,京东方副总裁张宇手捧一个长20厘米、宽13.5厘米左右的显示屏,画面上正在播放的动画片流畅清晰,如果不是凑近了看到显示屏如此“纤薄”的躯体,几乎不会意识到其显示效果与普通显示屏有什么差别。

目前,京东方研制成功的柔性显示屏可弯曲的曲率半径小于2厘米,也就是说,屏幕可以卷曲成一个半径不到两厘米的圆筒。这样的可弯曲曲率半径值背后的技术水平,与三星、LG等国际显示面板厂家的水平不相上下。

“马拉松”研发终丰收

“完全针对柔性显示屏的项目攻关,大约花了一年多的时间,相关的基础技术积累其实早在几年前就开始了。”张宇说,京东方柔性显示屏研发成功,背后是一场漫长的马拉松式的技术积累。

相比目前大多数显示器采用的TFT-LCD技术,AMOLED结构简单,不需背光、扩散板、配向膜、间隙子等繁复的零组件。

去年10月,京东方成功研发出17英寸AMOLED彩色显示屏,这是全球首款融合了氧化物TFT背板技术和喷墨打印技术的大尺寸AMOLED显示屏。此时,京东方在AMOLED技术上实现的突破就已经为柔性显示屏研发成功埋下了伏笔。

终于,在柔性基板制作、氧化物TFT、OLED发光层制备、薄膜封装及剥离等柔性显示技术重要工艺的逐个突破后,京东方用一年多的时间完成了细致的工艺整合。

此外,与传统显示屏相比,柔性显示带来的另一大优点还有结实耐用。

两条生产线翘首以待

“柔性屏的研制成功和逐渐量产,将使可穿戴设备渐渐走进人们的生活。”张宇说,京东方鄂尔多斯第5.5代AMOLED生产线、合肥第8.5代氧化物TFT-LCD生产线都已于今年年底投产,而这两条生产线都预留了柔性显示屏的生产空间。

对于公众何时能一睹柔性显示屏的真容,中国电子器材总公司中电会展市场总监何琼华在其个人微博上透露,在明年4月举行的中国电子信息博览会上,京东方这款柔性显示屏将首次亮相。
