同日，与广州相邻的佛山、东莞和深圳等珠三角城市也出现灰霾天气。根据广东省环境信息综合发布平台的数据，6日17时，东莞市五个监测点中的四个空气质量指数超过200，呈现重度污染；深圳市区大部分监测点的空气质量指数也在130－150之间，呈现轻度－中度污染。
广州市环保局介绍，城区部分工地扬尘防控措施未落实，道路施工未有效采取洒水和覆盖等措施，是造成广州市近期PM10和PM2.5污染加重的原因之一。

针对日益紧迫的空气污染形势，广州市环保局近日宣布《广州市环境空气重污染应急预案》启动准备工作全面就绪。广州市环保局表示，各成员单位已全面完成子预案的编制工作并建立了相关应急工作机制，一旦达到预案启动条件，将按照程序启动。启动预警后，教育、卫生、体育、交通等部门将负责督促学校、托幼机构、医院、体育场(馆)、机场、车站、码头等重点区域和人员密集场所做好空气重污染预警信息的接收和传播工作。
