2013年7月16日，陕西富平县薛镇村村民董某(23岁)在富平县妇幼保健院分娩过程中，医生张淑侠(系该医院产科副主任)告知董某及其家属“新生婴儿患有先天性传染病及先天残疾”。于是，新生婴儿父亲表示自愿放弃并自行委托医生张某对新生婴儿进行处置。随后，婴儿家属质疑婴儿被拐卖，并向富平县公安局城关派出所报案。
2013年12月30日9时，备受社会关注的陕西富平产科医生张淑侠拐卖婴儿案，在陕西渭南市中级人民法院公开审理。经过8个多小时的庭审，法庭宣布择期宣判。在最后陈述中，张淑侠当庭痛哭道歉。
据当地警方透露，截至2013年8月9日，公安机关已接到群众报案55起，其中涉及嫌疑人张淑侠的26起(经初步核查确定10起不属于刑事案件)，立案查实5起，其他正在核查中。张淑侠等9名犯罪嫌疑人被警方刑事拘留。
2013年8月9日，陕西富平县对相关责任人组织处理进行了宣布，该县副县长李雷平、卫生局局长汲新民、分管副局长卞慈梅、妇幼保健院院长王莉、分管副院长姚军民和分管护理工作的工会主席宋粉玲等6人被免职，并将根据案件侦办进展情况，严格依法依规依纪对相关人员严肃追究相应责任。
