　　刘耀宗是江西省兴国县人，1932年参加中国工农红军，1933年加入中国共产党。革命生涯中，他历任战士、学员、干事、指导员、政治处副主任、后勤处政委、团政委，分区政治部副主任、政治部主任、副政委，师副政委，华东军区司令部军政处处长、后勤运输部政委、后勤部干部处处长，南京军区后勤部副部长、政治部干部部部长、政治部副主任、司令部副参谋长，上海警备区第二政委、安徽省军区政委等职，为部队革命化、现代化、正规化建设作出了贡献。

　　刘耀宗1961年被授予少将军衔，曾荣获三级八一勋章、二级独立自由勋章、二级解放勋章和一级红星功勋荣誉章。
