双拥晚会、公安部春晚、文化部春晚和央视春晚被称为“春节四大晚会”。20多年来，3台晚会与央视春晚一样，已成为中国人春节文化的一部分。每年春节的舞台上，少不了拥军爱民的亲切祝愿，少不了文化舞台精品力作的优美展示，也少不了文艺大家庭的欢声笑语。
1990年首次推出的“双拥晚会”也叫军民迎新春文艺晚会，由全国双拥工作领导小组、国家民政部、国家广播电影电视总局、总政联合主办，紧跟时代步伐、讴歌时代精神是双拥晚会不变的主题。

据报道，为倡导荧屏节俭之风，2013年8月，中宣部等五部门下发《关于制止豪华铺张、提倡节俭办晚会的通知》。今年国家新闻出版广电总局对央视以及各大卫视的跨年、元旦、春节晚会进行严格把控，同一时间不能出现超过三台晚会，这三张“入场券”将按照审批的先后顺序发放；此外各家卫视只能在这三台晚会中选择一台来办。
此前，荧屏上中秋和跨年晚会已经纷纷被取消或简办，一时间电视晚会数量骤减，一味追求大场面、大舞美、大制作，奢华浪费、竞相攀比等不良现象得到有效遏制。据悉，在“节俭令”的大背景下，往年不计成本比拼豪华、争抢明星的各大卫视的春节晚会今年也有了不同程度的压缩。
为响应“节俭令”，中央电视台不但从去年中秋到元旦减少播出17项晚会类节目，占原计划播出量的50%左右，而且自2014年起减少播出56项晚会类节目，占以往播出量的60%左右。据中央电视台有关负责人介绍，央视将继续办好以《春节联欢晚会》为代表的自主创办品牌晚会，杜绝过度使用声光特效、舞台布景等，不搞异地分会场晚会，减少明星大腕，并邀请更多基层群众，打造真正的“群众大舞台”。
