关于中日关系，崔天凯表示，日本首相安倍晋三参拜供奉有二战甲级战犯的靖国神社，是对二战胜利成果、战后国际秩序和人类良知的严重挑衅，充分暴露了其错误史观、政治意图和政治倾向。扩充军备、修改和平宪法、企图否认日本军国主义犯下的滔天罪行，这一系列错误言行已使安倍成为地区的“麻烦制造者”，对整个地区的和平、稳定与发展都构成严重威胁。防止安倍带领日本在错误的道路上越走越远，符合包括中美两国在内的亚太地区的共同利益。多年来，中国在钓鱼岛问题上的立场是一贯的、明确的，即钓鱼岛是中国领土的一部分。中方主张中日双方通过对话协商妥善解决领土争议，但问题是日本现政府拒不承认争议，拒不反省历史问题，自己关闭了与中方对话的大门。
关于十八届三中全会和中国经济，崔天凯表示，中国需要较快的发展速度来支撑经济发展，提供足够就业机会，改善人民生活水平。但中国无意一味追求两位数的高增长率，而是更加注重通过调整经济结构，转变以大量消耗资源、严重破坏生态环境为代价的经济发展方式，实现更为均衡和可持续的增长。中共十八届三中全会作出全面深化改革、使市场在资源配置中起决定性作用、同时更好地发挥政府作用的重大决定，充分表明中国领导层推进改革的坚定决心。中国的改革是全方位的改革，涉及经济、政治、文化、社会、生态等各个领域，目的是推进国家治理体系和治理能力现代化，加强依法治国，确保社会公平正义，改善民生人权，保护自然生态环境。这是一项系统工程，需要各方面统筹协调、同步推进。35年前，中国开始实行改革开放，当时作出的重大决定就是把党和国家的工作中心转移到经济建设上来，这不仅仅是一个经济决策，更是一项政治抉择。很难想象如果没有政治改革，中国能够取得今天这样举世瞩目的经济成就。
关于中国自身定位，崔天凯表示，中国是一个发展中国家，是世界上人口最多的国家。这就像一艘航行在大海中的巨轮，不能突然改变行驶方向和航线，而要确保航行的安全性和稳定性。中国最大的国际责任就是使中国更加稳定、繁荣并最终实现统一。如果能够做到这些，全球五分之一人口将能够过上更加幸福的生活。这本身就将是中国对世界做出的最重要贡献之一。中国无意谋求成为亚太地区的领导者，更希望做地区国家的重要伙伴。美国仍是世界上实力最强和最大的发达国家。在可预见的未来，还没有哪个国家能够赶超美国。美国应对中国的历史、文化、过去、现在以及将来有更深入的了解，摒弃把中国视作威胁或挑战的观念。中国无意威胁任何国家。中国的发展是要超越自己而不是要压倒别人、包括美国。
