陪同访问的中国驻塞浦路斯大使刘昕生说，在各方共同努力下，叙化武海运护航取得良好开局。中方愿与各方一道，推动叙化武销毁取得进展，为政治解决叙利亚问题创造条件。
盐城舰指挥官李鹏程大校表示，盐城舰奉命参与叙利亚化武海运多国联合护航，与俄罗斯等国护航军舰密切沟通，多次举行联合演练，制定了切实可行的方案，提高了协同作战能力，有信心完成好护航任务。
去年12月27日，应俄罗斯邀请，中国、美国、叙利亚、丹麦、挪威等参与叙化武海运联合护航的国家，以及禁化武组织和联合国代表在莫斯科召开协调会，讨论并达成了统一的护航方案。根据这一方案，中国海军盐城舰于去年12月31日起航，今年1月4日抵达塞浦路斯利马索尔港。1月7日成功为首批叙化武海运护航。俄海军“彼得大帝”号核动力巡洋舰担任护航行动指挥舰，与各国军舰加强战术配合，提高应对突发紧急事件协同作战能力。联合国秘书长、禁化武组织总干事均对联合护航表示赞赏，称其是国际合作应对安全危机的典范。
