张万学在讲话中说，作为首个中塞合作的大型基础建设项目，泽蒙－博尔查大桥发挥了超出预期的示范带动效应。2013年尼科利奇总统访华和中塞两国总理在2013年中欧峰会期间都多次提及大桥项目，并表示出继续深化和加强双边合作的积极意愿。
根据中国路桥塞尔维亚分公司总经理张晓元介绍，泽蒙－博尔查大桥采用混凝土连续梁结构，其172米的主跨在同类型桥梁中排名全球第九位。主跨顺利合龙意味着泽蒙－博尔查大桥2014年年末通车的目标可以实现，届时这座桥将是塞尔维亚20年来首个按期完工的大型工程项目。大桥建成后，贝尔格莱德泽蒙区到博尔查区之间的通行距离与时间将缩短70%。
据介绍，泽蒙－博尔查大桥是中国建筑企业在欧洲承建的首个大桥项目，也是首个使用中国优惠贷款的建设项目，大桥设计与施工均由中国企业主导完成，在依据塞尔维亚和欧盟规范标准的同时部分采纳了中国标准。
