今年春运来得早，学生流、务工流高度重叠，客流量不断攀升。今年春运以来，广铁已发送旅客680.4万人，日均97.2万人。1月20日至22日，日均送客量均突破百万。22日上午，记者在广州火车站看到，进站客流开始逐渐增多。开车前两小时内进站通道第6、7、8、9进站口候车区基本爆满。
广铁集团表示，22日至29日，将安排京广、广深港高铁夜间开行动车组42列。其中，22日晚及23日凌晨，共开行7列“夜间高铁”，分别是：广州南至武汉G2552次(广州南发车时间22日22：21，到达武汉时间次日02:23)；广州南至武汉G2556次(广州南发车时间23日0:35开，到达武汉时间04:45)；深圳北至郑州东G2564次(深圳北发车时间22日23:40开，到达郑州东时间次日06:50)；广州南至长沙南G6154次(广州南发车时间22日20:49，到达长沙南时间23:29)；广州南至长沙南G6156次(广州南发车时间22日21:13，到达长沙南时间23:53)；广州南至长沙南G6160次(广州南发车时间22日21:38，到达长沙南时间次日0:18)；深圳北至长沙南G6172次(深圳北发车时间23日5:40开，到达长沙南时间08:32)。
22日广铁安排122趟始发临客上线运行，其中，广州站、广州东站、深圳站、深圳东站分别安排始发临客40趟、30趟、14趟、9趟。
23日，广铁增开121列普速临时列车，118组临客车底也全部投入运行，约增加运力28.1万人，主要开往湖南、湖北、四川等方向；深圳站开行临客列车14列，约增加运力3.3万人，主要开往湖北、四川等方向。
1月24日、27日、28日等客流高峰节点，广铁将增开122列临时客车，达到节前春运临客加开最高值。
