　　潘基文首先用中文说“新年快乐”，然后仍用中文自我介绍“我是联合国秘书长潘基文”。随后他再用英语说“春节快乐”。

　　潘基文说，值此马年新春佳节之际，他向大家致以最诚挚的问候。他说，联合国很荣幸能就和平、发展、人权等共同议题与中国人民紧密合作。他向中方所做承诺与贡献表示衷心感谢。

　　潘基文还说，祝大家在新的一年里身体健康、阖家幸福、一帆风顺。他最后又用中文祝愿人们“马到成功”。

　　来自中国的联合国副秘书长吴红波发表的新春贺词也同时公布。吴红波在贺词中说，在过去的一年里，联合国及其各个组织为世界的和平与发展做出不懈努力，也取得很多成绩，“这与我们所有中国人和中国籍的工作人员的共同努力是分不开的”。
