韩国常驻联合国代表吴俊也指出，围绕这个议题进行公开辩论对于维护东亚的和平与战后秩序具有重要意义。他认为，目前东亚局势比以往任何时候都紧张，这主要是由于日本领导人对日本在军国主义时期的所作所为持有扭曲的看法。日本领导人一再歪曲历史，给战犯脸上贴金，删改写有侵略历史的教科书，参拜供奉甲级战犯的靖国神社，这是在挑战战后国际秩序，破坏世界各国的和平努力。慰安妇问题是日本军国主义对朝鲜半岛和亚洲有关国家犯下的滔天罪行，是日本军国主义对妇女最基本生存权利的粗暴践踏。

刘结一说，日本代表的发言企图在靖国神社、慰安妇和教科书等问题上做出辩解，但实际上只能是欲盖弥彰、越抹越黑。针对日本代表的辩解，我们必须问几个问题。联合国有193个成员国，除日本领导人外，还有哪个国家的领导人参拜二战甲级和乙级战犯？日本领导人为什么要站在国际社会的对立面？难道参拜战犯、美化侵略战争是在宣示和平？《联合国宪章》开宗明义指出，联合国成立的宗旨是使后世免遭惨不堪言之战祸，而靖国神社供奉的战犯就是造成战祸的元凶。难道参拜这些战犯是在维护《联合国宪章》的宗旨和原则？难道修改教科书、掩盖和歪曲历史真相，是为了教育青少年避免重蹈侵略战争覆辙？日方的辩解不是自欺欺人，又是什么？
真相越辩越明。安理会关于战争教训及寻求和平的公开辩论会持续了一天，日本始终处于被告的位置。尽管日本代表三次发言，但苍白无力，第三次发言已经理屈词穷，只能老调重弹。
刘结一指出，“如果日本领导人真想与侵略战争历史及二战战犯决裂，日方应该知道怎么做，而不是怎么辩解”。
