蒋卫锁生于1968年，是陕西蒋卫锁乳品有限公司的创办人，因揭露乳品行业掺假内幕，被誉为“中国乳业打假第一人”。2009年获“首届网络3·15十大维权新闻人物”。2012年11月，蒋卫锁被害身亡的消息震惊乳品行业，也受到社会各界的关注。一度有谣言称这与他常年坚持乳业打假有关，系雇凶杀人。而随着案件的告破，案件真相水落石出，是一起因家庭矛盾酿出的悲剧。
1975年出生的杨萍系蒋卫锁的第三任妻子，据杨萍在法庭上供述，她曾经是一名急诊科医生，后来在蒋卫锁的乳业公司担任营养顾问。2012年6月与蒋卫锁结婚，婚后不久，屡遭蒋卫锁的家庭暴力。
公诉人当庭指控，2012年10月30日，被告人杨萍与丈夫蒋卫锁的弟弟发生纠纷，杨萍让自己的妹夫林凡叫人帮忙“教训”蒋卫锁。当晚23时许，被害人蒋卫锁回到家，杨萍、林凡、林晨光、李尧华、丁金西、王渭等6人对其殴打，后杨萍将蒋卫锁送往医院救治。蒋卫锁于2012年11月12日救治无效死亡。经法医鉴定：蒋卫锁因胸部及颅脑外伤后合并脑水肿、脑疝而死亡。
检察机关认为，杨萍、林凡、林晨光、李尧华、丁金西、王渭故意伤害他人身体并致人死亡，其行为已触犯刑法，应以故意伤害罪追究其刑事责任。
针对起诉书中“持刀捅刺蒋卫锁的左胸部”的指控，杨萍予以否认。她说她是随手拿起桌上的水果刀转身扔过去，没想到刀子扎进丈夫的左胸部。
蒋卫锁的母亲、女儿、儿子三人，作为刑事附带民事诉讼原告人出庭，请求法院依法判令6名被告人承担民事连带赔偿责任，支付包括医疗费用、被抚养人生活费、死亡赔偿金等在内的赔偿金共计1442万元。
庭审时，蒋卫锁的妹妹、舅舅等人作为刑事附带民事诉讼代理人轮番发问，质疑被告人杨萍找人殴打蒋卫锁是为了索要银行卡和密码，被告人杨萍当庭否认。
