克里在记者会上表示，他两天前访问北京，向中国表达“美国对南海及东海海域针锋相对的情形相当关切”。
克里说，美国深信，国际法律对所有国家都适用，不论大国或小国，美国支持所有国家都能遵守国际法律处理区域争议。
克里还说，美国感谢印度尼西亚扮演和东盟协商订定南海行为准则的“龙头角色”，不过，若协商的过程越久，区域紧张情势升高，某一方因误判情势引发冲突的机会就越大，这是所有人都不想要的局面。
克里声称，中国寻求扩大在亚太海域的控制，令美国越来越担忧。
而被问到跨太平洋伙伴协议协商的进展，克里表示，美国将继续进行协商。
据悉，印度尼西亚是克里这次亚洲4国之行的第3站，他先前已经访问过韩国和中国。
