该段视频长约35秒，记者在视频上看到，事件发生在雷州城区的主要街道，当时有大批民众围观，有多名疑似身穿协警制服的人在场。一名男子被按倒在地后，多名身穿制服的男子围上去，用脚朝地上男子踢踹，场面比较混乱。其间依稀可见有人上前阻止，但终未成功。
昨天，当地警方有关负责人告诉记者，事件发生在今年大年初一，当日上午，由于城区人较多，为确保交通安全畅顺，交警部门对雷州市区的主要街道进行了交通疏导和交通管制。
“（视频说协警围殴民众）是歪曲事实。初步了解的情况是，当时有十多名青年不听指挥，欲强行搬开中间隔离器械强闯过去，雷州交警大队一姓林的副大队长见状上前劝阻，结果被这伙青年挥拳头打肿了眼睛。”雷州市有关部门一官员告诉记者。

记者随后致电雷州警方了解情况，雷州警方负责人告诉记者，目前警方已介入调查，一旦有了调查结果，将由湛江市公安宣传部门向媒体公布。
