克里告诉在场的记者，他与中国各级别的领导人进行了会谈，几乎涉及了所有中美双方各领域关切的主题，“在我看来，今天的会谈很有建设性，气氛非常好”。
缓解亚太紧张局势
在强调了美国国内对于美在亚太地区领导力角色均达成共识后，克里表示，美国与中国的合作伙伴关系对美国为该区域提供稳定和繁荣非常关键。
克里告诉媒体，其与中国领导人的会谈，首先涉及的议题便是，中美两国在朝鲜无核化问题上共同的承诺和中国在处理朝鲜问题上的特别作用。中美及国际各方达成共识，朝鲜应该采取有意义的、具体的、不可逆的措施实现无核化，并且应该立即启动。
中国外交部长王毅在与克里会谈时，交换了中方就朝鲜半岛局势的意见。王毅强调，中国是朝鲜半岛近邻，在朝鲜半岛有重大利益关切。中方的一贯立场是坚持以对话谈判和平解决问题，绝不允许半岛生乱生战。
朝鲜问题一直是中美双边关系的长期症结，这次朝鲜问题成为中美双方讨论的第一个问题有其时效性与紧迫性。克里在抵达北京前一站的首尔时，与韩国总统朴槿惠最主要的议题就是朝鲜核问题。韩国、中国、美国，被视为朝鲜核问题上最有影响力的三方，因此，三方在朝核问题上的协调与合作在近来朝鲜局势多变的形势下更为关键。
除了朝鲜问题，各界还关注克里与中国领导人就东海防空识别区和可能划设的南海防空识别区所进行的讨论。克里表示，他与中国领导人的谈话涉及了中国防空识别区的问题，表达了美方对防空识别区的认知和感受。同时他也承认合作领域众多的中美两国政府，的确存在分歧。克里称，任何单边的、偶发的、未经程序的行为都会对亚太地区的僵局形成挑战，影响区域稳定。
王毅介绍了东海、南海问题的历史经纬，阐述了中方严正立场，强调中国坚持走和平发展道路，坚持奉行睦邻友好政策，坚持致力于通过谈判协商和平解决有关争端。同时，谁也不能动摇我们捍卫国家主权和领土完整的决心。希望美方尊重历史事实，尊重中方的主权权益，客观公正地看待有关问题，切实不选边站队，以实际行动增进有关国家间互信，维护地区和平稳定。
力推气候合作
虽然克里此行的主要目的与核心议题是缓和亚太局势、商讨热点话题、巩固盟友关系，但他也没有忽视经济合作。中美之间的气候变化与清洁能源合作成为克里此次访华最显而易见的成果。此举也似乎弥补了去年12月美国副总统拜登访问中国时，被东海防空识别区设立引发的问题搅了局，进行了一次“重政轻商”的访华之旅。
15日上午，戴着寓意清洁能源的鲜亮绿领带，克里一行来到位于北京郊区的昌平，参观2007年中美合资成立的北京福田康明斯发动机有限公司。
去年首次访华期间，在克里和中方领导人的推动下，中美两国成立了中美气候变化工作组机制，定期“经营”中美合作的新领域——气候变化合作。
根据2月15日发布的《中美气候变化联合声明》，双方已就工作组下启动五个领域实施计划达成一致，包括载重汽车和其他汽车减排、智能电网、碳捕集利用和封存、温室气体数据的收集和管理、建筑和工业能效。
