  《洛杉矶时报》称,有不少美国政治分析人士认为,第一夫人的非正式访问在促进中美双边关系、宣传美国价值观念方面,远比总统的国事访问更为有效。美国白宫前社交秘书利兹·哈内尔表示:“作为两个孩子的母亲,米歇尔是全美最合适的使者人选。在表达美方愿同中方建立牢固双边关系的美好意愿和承诺的同时,米歇尔还能够运用人们对她的关注度,转述了美国的另一项意愿——即越来越多的美国年轻人想要来中国学习。”此前奥巴马政府制定了一个目标,争取让美国在中国的留学生人数从2万人增加到10万人。
