初步调查，3月24日，会泽县马路乡新山村委会村民邹正兵结婚，租用会泽县迤车镇梨园村村民付朝春的中型普通客车（核载19人，隶属曲交集团会泽分公司）接送亲戚朋友，实载29人。19时42分许，车辆行至新山坪子路段时驶出路面，冲下61.6米深的山沟造成事故。
事故发生后，市、县两级立即启动应急预案，会泽县组织力量赶赴现场开展现场救援等相关工作。曲靖市人民政府成立“3·24”事故处置工作领导小组，下设医疗救护、事故调查、善后处理等6个工作组开展工作。
目前，事故共造成5人死亡（2人当场死亡，1人送马路卫生院抢救无效死亡，2人送县医院抢救途中死亡），24人不同程度受伤（4人伤势较重，轻伤20人）经市、县医疗专家组会诊，伤势较重的4人伤情稳定。
目前，伤员救治、事故调查、善后处理等工作正有序开展。
