市场调查机构Kantar?Worldpanel?ComTech周一发布报告称，中国3月份售出的智能手机中有40%为屏幕尺寸大于5英寸的设备。中国用户之所以如此喜爱使用“平板手机”，是因为此类超大屏幕手机提供了较强的娱乐性。
“很显然，平板手机明显改变了中国消费者使用智能手机的方式。”Kantar战略洞察总监多米尼克·桑尼伯（Dominic?Sunnebo）表示，“超过五分之一的平板手机用户如今会用手机来看电视，另外有一半的用户会每月至少用手机观看一次电视，而且这还是在没有广泛普及4G网络的条件下。”
中国市场的情况并不是个例。今年早些时候，另一市场调查机构Juniper?Research也发布一份报告，称2018年全球平板手机的出货量预计将达到1.2亿台，而去年，该数字仅为2000万台（注：Kantar将尺寸超过5英寸的手机归为平板手机，而Juniper规定屏幕在5.6英寸以上的手机才是平板手机）。
另一个广泛流行平板手机的市场是三星公司的本土战场——韩国。截止2013年8月的数据，韩国市场已有41%的智能手机为屏幕尺寸在5英寸至6.9英寸的设备，相比之下，此期间全球平板手机的市场份额仅为7%。仅考虑到中国加韩国两个市场的增长，苹果也势必会推出自有品牌的平板手机产品。
Kantar在今天公布的报告也提到了平板手机未来对移动运营商潜在业绩表现的影响。随着越来越多的用户开始采用较大屏幕手机，这些用户通常也会在手机上消费更多的流量。桑尼伯相信，中国移动运营商会因为用户升级数据流量套餐服务而实现营收增长。
“随着4G基础设施在中国市场的不断拓展，流量的需求将会是空前的。这也为运营商们通过提供更大的流量套餐以增加营收铺平了道路。”桑尼伯表示。
直至目前，平板手机在中国的受欢迎程度仍远高于美国。谷歌Android在智能手机系统领域处于统治地位，2014年3月的数据显示其占据了全球80%的份额，而苹果仅为17.9%。但在美国，Android和iOS的市场份额差距并不大，前者为57.6%，后者为35.9%。鉴于大多数平板手机都运行Android系统，可以认为美国消费者的苹果的忠诚度目前尚未因大屏幕智能手机而发生大的改变。
今年，苹果传闻也将推出自己的平板手机产品。这或将帮助该公司赢回部分市场。
