科班军事专才担重任
如今越来越多的解放军将领乃是科班出身的高学历人才。与刘振立同龄的第31集团军军长马成效，在青海民族学院大学本科毕业后，又考入西安陆军学院获得军事学硕士学位。第41集团军军长刘小午，拥有双硕士学位，在美国曼哈顿大学计算机专业硕士毕业。
第16集团军军长高光辉高中毕业后考入大连陆军学院，20岁时就本科毕业，后还曾在俄罗斯联邦武装力量合成学院学习，多次组织指挥联合军事演习。2009年直接从师长越级超擢为军长，是近十几年来唯一的一位。
四总部及七大军区首长，均担任过集团军主官
18个集团军分布于七大军区，其中沈阳、北京、济南、南京四大军区各3个，兰州、成都、广州三大军区各2个。按照装备水平、兵力员额、战略作用等因素的不同，集团军分为甲类、乙类。每个大军区都有1个甲类集团军，唯北京军区由于战略地位特殊重要而拥有2个。

现任沈阳军区司令员王教成中将1952年生于浙江杭州。他17岁入伍，长期在南京军区服役，经历过野战部队、军区机关等多个岗位的历练。王教成曾历任团参谋长、团长、师参谋长、南京军区三界训练基地司令员、南京军区军训部部长等职位。2005年7月，王教成任陆军第12集团军军长，2007年12月升任南京军区副司令员。2009年7月，王教成晋升中将军衔。2012年10月，王教成出任沈阳军区司令员。
张仕波中将：从驻港部队到北京军区
现任北京军区司令员张仕波中将1952年2月出生于浙江诸暨。他1970年入伍，历任排长、连长，参谋，副处长、处长、团长，师参谋长、师长，集团军参谋长、副军长，大军区副参谋长，集团军军长等职位。2007年12月，张仕波任驻香港部队司令员。

赵宗岐中将：指导塑造“许三多”
现任济南军区司令员赵宗岐中将原名赵中奇，1955年生于黑龙江宾县，是现今七大军区中最年轻的司令员。
1979年，对越自卫反击战打响，赵宗岐奉命随部队突破越南西线，参加了攻打老街、柑塘、沙坝的战役，还经常自己化装成越南人，潜入敌营区搜集信息，为部队提供了大量可靠的情报。2006年，赵宗岐还被《士兵突击》剧组聘为军事顾问，指导塑造了男主角“许三多”这一深入人心的形象。2009年，赵宗岐晋升中将军衔。2012年11月，赵宗岐当选中共第十八届中央委员，并升任济南军区司令员。
蔡英挺上将：台海危机中表现出众
现任南京军区司令员蔡英挺上将1954年生于福建泉州。他16岁时入伍，从普通战士做起，曾任班长、排长。后来，他又先后担任了军区参谋、副参谋长、南京军区司令部作战部副部长等职。1995年至1996年的台海危机期间，时任中央军委副主席的张万年赴福建沿海指挥军事演习。当时还是某师副参谋长的蔡英挺，表现出色。
2011年7月，蔡英挺调任解放军副总参谋长。由于曾长期在南京军区服役，蔡英挺非常熟悉台海及周边海上军情。2012年10月，蔡英挺重返南京军区，任军区司令员。2013年7月31日，蔡英挺晋升上将军衔。
徐粉林上将：将《孙子兵法》结合现实
现任广州军区司令员徐粉林上将1953年生于江苏金坛，1972年12月参军，曾长期在兰州军区任职。2004年7月，徐粉林调任陆军第21集团军军长。2006年，徐粉林在《光明日报》发表了题为《孙子兵法与信息时代军事斗争准备》的文章，探索中国古老的军事思想在当今信息时代军事斗争准备中的应用问题。
2007年7月，徐粉林由大西北的兰州军区调往广州，接替当时调任北京军区司令员的房峰辉，任广州军区参谋长。2009年12月，他升任广州军区司令员。2013年7月31日，徐粉林晋升上将军衔。
李作成中将：29岁入选十二大主席团
现任成都军区司令员李作成中将1953年出生，湖南安化人，1970年入伍，1979年参加了对越自卫反击战。在一次战斗中，他身体多处受伤，坚持不下火线，率领全连官兵与敌军血战26个日夜，歼敌294名，俘敌4名，此后，李作成所在连队荣立集体一等功，被中央军委命名为“尖刀英雄连”，李作成本人被中央军委授予“战斗英雄”称号。1982年中共十二大上，29岁的李作成入选为主席团成员。2007年，李作成调任成都军区副司令员，2009年晋升中将军衔。2013年，成都军区原司令员李世明年满65岁退役，副司令员李作成接任司令员。综合《环球人物》
