值得注意的是，上一次两国边界事务磋商和协调工作机制会议在今年2月举行，时隔两个月后印度政府迫切要求召开新一轮会议。《印度时报》分析认为，这其中主要有两个原因。首先，随着天气转暖和夏季到来，喜马拉雅山的关口会重新开放，届时印中双方都准备加强实控线上的巡逻。这样就会增加印中边界部队对峙的可能性。印媒称，一年之前，中国巡逻部队进入拉达克的普桑谷地搭建帐篷，引发一场冲击印中关系的最严重国家安全危机。因此，印中两国政府中没有人想看到再出现此类意外事件。其次，鉴于印度正处于大选期间，国大党政府不想在印中实控线上发生任何可能的危机事件，任何意外事件对印度国内政治都具有潜在的不稳定影响。印度国家安全局和外交部都想竭尽全力，把发生对峙和误判事件的可能性降至最低，因此印中这次会议将评估双方实控线上的边界巡逻协议和部队标准操作程序。
最近，中印之间举行战略安全方面的对话频度之高，堪称罕见。就在举行第六次边界机制会议几天前，中国人民解放军副总参谋长戚建国中将率团访问了印度，两军探讨了维持实控线地区和平的具体措施及加强双方军事交往。而本月14日，中印还在北京举行了第六次战略对话。
中国印度问题专家钱峰28日告诉《环球时报》，中印高密度磋商，表明如今两国间的沟通渠道很多且高效运行。就中国而言，当日本、菲律宾不断在东海、南海挑事的情况下， 搞好西边与印度的安全关系至关重要。而印度在当前局势下，也希望有一个稳定的环境来发展本国经济。来自双方的战略取向，促成中印全力解决边界安全问题。
对于未来印度的大选结果，中国官方持乐观态度。据印度《经济时报》28日报道，中国驻印大使魏苇日前在接受该报采访时表示，大选后的印度新政府预期将提升经济，这将有助于推动中印双边关系达到历史性阶段。
